I'm going to offer Harrisburg and Mount Harris then perhaps someone with better knowledge of German geography can tap the ball in and have the glory.

I was thinking the Centralia Fire but it does seems Pennsylvania has plenty of coal seam fires so I'll accept it.

Open floor then.

I'll take the floor since it's been open overnight.

Who "taught us the joy of shame and the shame of joy"?.

Well, I thought that It was someone else, so I looked it up to check.

It seems that I was wrong, as apparently it was someone called Maude Flanders. She seems to be from The Simpsons, but I know not if she is / was a real person as well.

It was indeed Maude Flanders. Ned's wife from "The Simpsons" had a vision of a biblical theme park, and the quote was inscribed upon her statue.

As for Onan... Brilliant answer, but not the one I had in mind ;)

The floor is given to EbbwJunction1.

Thank you; here we go, then.

Brasenose; Christ Church; Merton; New; Queen's; Trinity.

One of these is the odd one out - which one, and why?

Again, correct, but not what I was looking for.

If I may take a shot: Trinity is the odd one out -- in that it is the only Oxford college which has a counterpart at Cambridge, with the identical name. Oxford has Queen's College, commemorating just one queen; Cambridge's Queens' College commemorates -- as per the punctuation -- more than one queen.

Yes, also correct .... but still not what I was looking for, sorry.

You're hard to please :) ! OK -- Christ Church has a cathedral -- the other, inferior, colleges just have piffling chapels for offering their devotions to the Almighty.

I know, I know ... and I still am!

Okay, here's a clue for you all. The answer is connected to the name but not the building of each college. Does this help?

New College - all the others are adjacent to streets etc. which bear the name of the college (e.g. Queen's Lane, Brasenose Lane).

Yes, this is correct but still not what I was looking for!

I'm going to give the answer, as otherwise we could be here for ever. The odd one out is Christ College, as that has a "Meadow", whereas all the others have "Recreation Ground(s)".

It's an open playing field!

Those snobby buggers at Christ Church -- always having to outclass everyone else...

Suppose you are travelling by land, from Mexico to Colombia (at one particular point very difficult, but not actually physically impossible). Taking the most commonly-used route: how many international borders would you cross on your journey?

A good friend of mine, who went to "the other place" refers to Oxford as "The Cowley Polytechnic"; he hasn't commented on my suggestion that he went to "The East Anglia College"!

Darn Darian Gap...

Correct -- basically passing through all the Central American countries except Belize. Your floor.

Oxford-versus-Cambridge mutual mockery has of course been going on since forever. I like the verse from around the 17th century:

Our gracious King, thinking how best to please,
Sent gifts to both his Universities.
To Oxford sent a troop of horse; and why?
That learned body lacked for loyalty.
To Cambridge sent a gift of books, discerning
How much that loyal body lacked for learning.
