Sorry if this has been posted before...

I was wondering where there are golf courses close to stations, as we have Mitcham Golf Club right next to Mitcham Junction Station, Verulam looks close to St Albans but might be a trek to walk to.

Can you think of any others?

Hall Road, Hillside, Ainsdale all within 20 minutes of eachother on Merseyrail.

There are probably dozens to be honest.

Carnoustie for, well, Carnoustie. IIRC, all trains (including EC & XC trains called there when there was an event on a couple of yeras back?). The station south of there (serving the village of Barry) is called Barry Links, I always though a links was a golf course?

Chevin golf course is not too far from Duffield station. In fact it's right next to the railway. There's a story about a goods train being held in the loop before Milford Tunnel. The fireman took his tea can across to the club house to get it filled. The Duffield hoi poloi were not best pleased.

Love that storey thanks Wyvern, I wonder how many train windows have been cracked by balls over the years :D

Carrick Knowe golf course is directly adjacent to the glasgow via falkirk and fife lines.

kingsknowe gold club is next to the glasgow via shotts line, and is a golf ball's slice away from kingsknowe station.

Ayrshire does a nice line in golf courses next to the railway tracks including the world famous Royal Troon.

Think there might be a small golf course next to the Blackpool South line.

Ahem. That 'small' golf course would be Royal Lytham & St Annes, one of the regular hosting venues of the Open Championship!

There's a few within walking distance of Perth Station

Gleneagles Station is quite handy for Gleneagles... (Oddly enough).

Dunblane New Golf Club is a few hundred metres from Dunblane Station and if you really want to, you could play a game at Dunblane, walk along the Darn Walk to Bridge of Allan, play at the 9 hole course there then walk down to Bridge of Allan station.

To be honest, it's probably easier to list the stations in Scotland that aren't within a short distance of a golf course than those that are!

Most of the lines to Mallaig/Oban, every station (bar possibly one or two that I'm not sure about) north of the Dundee/Carnoustie never-ending golf course (including those on different lines), most stations in Edinburgh. Not sure about Glasgow but probably those as well...

I think that may have been a bit of an exaggeration :p

Although there's no stations on the route, there are quite a few courses between Kirknewton and Carstairs.

None of which are anywhere near a station. North of Montrose, the railway tends to stay away from the coastal areas (which is where the golf courses are)

The golf course proposed by Donald Trump would be about 7 miles as the crow flies from Dyce.

The nearest golf course to Aberdeen station itself is King's Links which has its entrance slightly over a 2.5 mile walk away.

South of King's Links is the biggest coastal golf course desert in the populated part of Eastern Scotland

Oh and btw I wasn't saying there aren't golf courses in Edinburgh - I was just saying that there is a lot of Edinburgh that isn't golf course, so there are a lot of stations that aren't near one. :)

Stonehaven, where the line rejoins the coast, has a course fairly close on the north side of the bay. As for the Trump course in Aberdeen (currently planned to be plonked on top of some very valuable wildlife habitat at Balmedie) one has to wonder what is wrong with the course at Murcar, which is much nearer the city, well-established and very nice to play.

Incidentally, there is also a course between Stevenage and Knebworth on the west side of the line (entrance about 800 yds from Knebworth station). Brookman's Park is fairly close to a course, but the entrance is a good mile away, round the other side of the course, however Potter's Bar is much closer at 600 yds, and always looks like a nice course from the line.

oo yes I knew I would miss one - it's about the same distance as King's Links is from Aberdeen.

As for Trump - he doesnt value anything in the world in the slightest other than making himself money. He can't even understand why anyone else would value anything other than money and has frequently taken to hurling childish insults at anyone who does (or rather, anyone whose valuing anything other than money gets in the way of him making money)

Yes - but it may not *currently* be a golf course - think eg of Leith Links.
