Once the application is submitted and you can download it in PDF format, what does the application score refer to please.
I have submitted mine. I can see an application score as well. I assume part of the score is automated. However as I have only just submitted it, I guess the rest has to be marked and updated by HR.
What was your application score lol mine is 12
Probably just a score to indicate that every section of the application has been filled out.
It was a few months after the DMI when they thought they had a course date for me.at what stage did you complete the medical? was it on the day of the mmi?
I’d say apply and/or ask, only GA will be able to tell you for sure.Would you be allowed to relocate from a different part of the country? Or will they automatically dismiss your application?
Just a note, I would not be too discouraged by the requirement of living within a certain range of said position. I have just been accepted for an assessment day after completing the online assessment, and the depot is 70-80mins away from my address, when it was quoted I must live within 45-60 mins maximum of my application would be discounted. Like one never said brilliantly, let them say no to you, not you said no to the application. Even if I lived 2 hours away I would still apply as it’s a dream job for me, a life style more than just a career.
I am new here and have only applied to one position(which I have gained an assessment day for)but I took notice of what was said in previous posts from the older members of the community regarding the application form.
This is the most important part in my(newly formed) opinion. I spent 2 hours writing up how my previous role would set me in good stead of the position I was applying for, and I honestly feel this was the part that made the difference.
More than happy to send my application statement to anyone who’s looking for guidance and feels the distance barrier is their main hurdle. PM me
Good luck to all
Say good bye to football you'll follow a roster covering more or less 24 hours
I believe the first year is around £37/38k without Sunday’s, so if you do Sunday’s it won’t be far off.
After a year is £50/51k without Sunday’s, £56-58k with.
Depends on location too.
Thanks for your reply. That sounds decent.
What are the shift patterns like? I play football for a vets team on a Saturday but would happily work every Sunday if it meant I could have the Saturday off haha. Do you get a choice?
Hi mate, I’ve been reading your journal regarding your training journey. I must admit the standard of training sounds great. I must say your journal is very informative too. I have applied for this position as I have been in a talent pool with my TOC for nearly a year now with no hint of a start date on the horizon. I was just curious where the training academy is held? In regards to travelling to and from the places of training, do you get free travel to travel via train? Regards
Not so much a choice between Saturdays or Sundays but again it would depend on location as I believe rosters are different. But you could also get swaps going for example my DI prefers earlies and only does lates every now and again as he has a continuous mutual swap going with another driver on the roster who prefers lates. So you could possibly do a similar thing with individual days.
The training has been great. Glad my thread helped!
Ah I see, yeah definately go for it. The academy address is:
Solar House
Greater Anglia, Solar House, 1-9 Romford Road, London, E15 4LJ
GA will give you a temporary travel card until you get a smart touch staff card. You can also apply for a PRIV card which will get you 75% off other TOCs services when buying at a ticket office.
Although a few of the guys on our course were travelling with Great Northern for free being told by the ticket office or RPI it’s okay.
Hi all,
I'm considering applying for this as I've passed all the assessments etc last year with Crossrail but they have messed me around and talent pooled me as there are no vacancies anymore, with no job in sight at present.
What I want to ask is if I was to go with greater Anglia, what is the pay after training/1 year as crossrail was £44k and I'd be taking a big pay drop in that first year so need to know if the 2nd year is enough.
Thanks in advance
You want to think of things that won’t be a negative regarding the role of a train driver. Could be anything.Hi
Just joined the forum so hi there.....
I am part way through completing my application for this vacancy and i am struggling what to put for my 3 development areas..... i know nobody on here will know this answer but could you advise what type of things i could put? for example is it development areas to do with anything or is it focusing on the train driver role?
e.g lack of mechanical knowledge, or a random example like exercising more etc
any assistance or examples would be appreciated
Thanks for this info as I am not too clued up on the PRIV as I haven’t needed it.Just a note on the priv. It isn't supposed to be for commuting , you can get a priv rate season ticket for travel from your home station to one near your depot. The priv is supposed to be leisure only. As one Lowban has said , you might get permission by the TOC rpi or guard etc , but just be careful as you could lose your travel perks and possibly your new career.

Cheers, yeah I should have a read properly one day.No problems. I myself don't know many nuances of the railway still. If you go on the rail delivery group site rail staff travel , should tell you everything about the travel . Free ferries , travel in Europe and much more.
