Until recently the line offered brilliant views of the "sea" (although not as good as the views offered between Castle Cary and Taunton).Between Taunton and Bristol T.M. the line does have some good views of the countryside
Don’t know about now, but before the announcement of these being withdrawn, it was not difficult to see an up 2+4 passing a down 2+4 at some of the stations on this line.
Sounds like my retirement date, always disappearing into the distance…!43005 hasn't worked since Monday, spent Tuesday & Wednesday on PM, been told it's now got a new retirement date of Friday 24
The next 2 due exam are 43088 & 43158, depending on how well there hours are managed would expect them to go sometime in the 2nd half of MarchWith 005 now gone does anyone know the next powercar to go?
Here you goApologies if I’ve missed them but are the current standard Saturday diagrams for the castles anywhere…?

Been told the exam dates are more final then the engine overhaul dates which they seam happy to run locos past,
Also worth noting that 3 castles are yet to work a train this year 43162, 43171 & 43186

It's pathed as one, so I assume so, could be wrong thoughRealtime Trains | 0938 Bristol Temple Meads to Worcester Shrub Hill | 12/03/2023

Any idea if this service on a Sunday is normally a castle set?
I’ve taken this before and it was a Castle. Something quite satisfying alighting at the rather vintage Worcester Shrub Hill from an HST!Realtime Trains | 0938 Bristol Temple Meads to Worcester Shrub Hill | 12/03/2023

It can be – but it’s not guaranteed. The past four weeks have seen:Realtime Trains | 0938 Bristol Temple Meads to Worcester Shrub Hill | 12/03/2023

It's an hourly service I'm afraidThe half hourly service with IETs on PNZ CDF etc should be retained, Extra sidings going in at Longrock to cater for this longer train upgrade.
Penzance Cardiff is 2 hourly and as far as I'm aware is staying as it is.The half hourly service with IETs on PNZ CDF etc should be retained, Extra sidings going in at Longrock to cater for this longer train upgrade.

43186 was out on a test run today so suspect it'll be back in service very soonWorth noting that 43162 has been out recently, seen working 2C10 (0628 Exeter to Penzance) last Saturday (11th) at Liskeard. Not sure if 171 is on an exam or not, but noted upthread that 186 is on exam.
Not sure if this is the case (just my guess) but that might mean another power car withdrawal will happen soon. I went through my photos from January this year, and the power car returns and withdrawals seemed to be:43186 was out on a test run today so suspect it'll be back in service very soon
Do correct me if I'm wrong as I don't know much about their examination details and service status, these are just based on my photo records. The next 2 due exam are 43088 & 43158, depending on how well there hours are managed would expect them to go sometime in the 2nd half of March

I’ve heard it quite a bit too. Given the fragility of the Turbos and fluctuations in availability of the IETs, I wouldn’t be surprised at all - and pretty thankful if it is the case!I’m hearing rumours about the Castles lasting until May 24 now, any truth in this madness?
