This was the Lancashire, Derbyshire & East Coast Railway (LDECR), which never reached either Lancashire or the East Coast. It was a financial basket case, taken over by the Great Central Railway in 1907, and was closed to passengers in 1951 – partly because a long tunnel at Bolsover was in poor condition due to mining subsidence.

This is a very interesting thread - it strikes me how sparse the services were at some of the stations, look at Norwich City (M&GN) which had a massive gap during the middle of the day!

Perhaps I have not correctly interpreted what you mean, but that image when viewed is nothing whatsoever to do with Stockport Tiviot Dale station and the wording of Great Central Railway on the building façade can clearly be seen in the image.
sorry, i seem to have quoted the wrong post. should have been:-

Yes, all of the above "shuttles" to Gobowen called at Park Hall Halt.
There was one very early service on Sunday morning that omitted Park Hall (06:25 from Gobowen**, a strange somewhat roundabout 05:45 Shrewsbury to Aberystwyth service. and the only Sunday service to Aberystwyth (with 18:15 Aberystwyth - Crewe as the only eastbound Sunday service.)

Then, until mid-afternoon, all other Gobowen services were shown as "operated by Crosville Road Motor Services". There were 6 Sunday trains each way between Oswestry & Gobowen; Oswestry dep. 15:40; 16:15; 16:40; 18:30; 19:02; 20:28.

I have edited the original SX version to add the 07:57 to Paddington, which was accidentally omitted. This joined the 07:30 from Plymouth at Newton Abbot.
The SX Manchester train attached to the 08:00 Plymouth - Liverpool & Glasgow at Newton Abbot.
The SX Liverpool service attached to the 07:30 Penzance - Manchester.
Normal procedure was for Newton Abbot station pilot to shunt one portion onto the rear of another. In 1960, they used a Class 03 or 08 shunter.

On Saturdays, the two Manchester services ran as independent trains from Paignton. Many Saturday long distance services from Paignton or Kingswear did not call at Kingskerswell; indeed, some also omitted Newton Abbot, Exeter and even Bristol. The Devonian had no booked passenger stops between Newton Abbot and Gloucester Eastgate, although there was probably a stop to change locos in the Bristol area.

Westbound, (SX) the 16:15 originated at Cardiff, and was combined with a portion for Plymouth as far as Newton Abbot.
The (SX) Liverpool, Manchester & Paddington trains were similarly detached from services to Plymouth (or Penzance in the case of the 13:30 from Paddington)
On Saturdays, westbound trains until 16:26 were all independent services; later long distance trains were portions detached at Newton Abbot.
The Walsall service ran via Birmingham New St., and also picked up passengers at Barnt Green & Bromsgrove.
No Saturday services from Paddington called at Kingskerswell; some also omitted Torre.

Out of interest, would anyone know what sort of Traction would have been used? Any info would be great...

Anyone know of the East Kilbride branch had trains beyond Glasgow Central or Glasgow St Enoch?

I can only find trains to/from Glasgow Central, plus in some years, a (very) few serving St. Enoch.

The line used to continue beyond East Kilbride, across several miles of sparsely populated countryside to Hamilton (West & Central). A sparse passenger service was suspended during WW1, and seems to have never been reinstated.

There had been a private intermediate station, Calderwood Glen Platform, about 2 miles beyond East Kilbride, used only for excursions to an adjacent estate; apparently these continued until WW2, but did not appear in public timetables.

Out of interest, would anyone know what sort of Traction would have been used? Any info would be great...

D400

By the time of my first (family holiday) visit to the Newton Abbot to Paignton / Kingswear line in 1960, dmus had taken over most of the local services. Long-distance through passenger services were mostly GWR 4-6-0s (up the size of Castles - I never saw any Kings on the line), with "portions" sometimes worked by GWR 2-6-2 Tanks. Possibly some diesels were also used (Warships, Class 22), but after over 50 years, I cannot remember seeing any on the branch - just on the main line to Plymouth.

There might have been regular summer excursions, but they would not generally appear in the public passenger timetables, only the working timetables or special (weekly) notices that were (officially) not available to passengers.
