That's a very difficult question to ask - what kind of hotel are you looking for, what is your budget, where in Glasgow do you want to be?

It depends on how many nights you're planning to stay for. If it's only a couple, then I'd recommend the Premier Inn in George Square as that's pretty central to both Glasgow Central and Glasgow Queen Street. I've stayed there a few times now and I've never had any complaints whatsoever.

That is a relatively achievable ambition...

If you are in the market for a decent hotel all the chains Holiday Inn, Jurys Inn,Hilton etc will be within your budget particularly if it is a weekend.

One of the Hilton's is a 5 star ....don't stay at that Grand Central Dump :p

Grand Central a dump? Hardly.

I stayed at the Artto Hotel this summer which is over the street from Central Station. Price was very reasonable but the hotel itself was a bit care worn and could probably do with a refurbishment in the near future. But on your budget I'd suggest investigating one of the chain hotels like Hilton, Jury's Inn and similar. Failing that you should be able to get a Premer Inn for less than £150.

Agreed re the "Grand Central." I stayed there for work a couple of years ago and didn't have any complaints. It won't be the cheapest, but atmosphere, history and the breakfast (including haggis and black pud) made it a visit to remember.
Currently offering DB&B in Jan for £120 (but I hate to think what any more wine would cost - just looked - £22 to 30 a bottle!)
On the other hand Weatherspoons is within easy walking distance...

A couple of suggestions from me.

Ibis Styles, just off Ingram Street and a five minute walk from Central & Queen St. Brand new hotel, only been open about four months and is very nice. As someone said the Ibis beds are probably the best in the business at the moment. If you go to www.accorhotels.com and click on the offers tab there are some decent early booking offers at the moment. I stayed in it before Christmas and it was £45 for the room and comes with free continental breakfast.

Travelodge - A brand new one is about to open on Queen Street

Premier Inn - Argyle street, two mins from Central or George Street.

Hotel Indigo - Waterloo Street. Out the Hope St entrance to Central and it's a two minute walk. This is probably my favourite hotel in Glasgow TBH. The rooms are very comfortable and there is complementary soft drinks and snacks in the room, occasionally they also put beer in the mini bar as well and it's free.

Hilton - Five minute walk further up the street from Hotel Indigo. I actually stayed there last week and it was ok but if I had been paying for it myself I would have been disappointed. Hilton have a winter sale on just now though so you might be able to get a bargain.

Radisson Blu - just along from the Premier Inn on Argyle Street. It's a very nice hotel but there is better value to be had in Glasgow than here TBH.

If I had to pick one myself it would be the Ibis Styles or Hotel Indigo.

I usually stay at the Marriott, across the road from Anderston station. The breakfast is brilliant. Weekend rates tend to start from about £80 but only if the hotel is quiet obviously.

I've never stayed in a Glasgow hotel - living there most of my life and having family in the city I've never needed to. However I can assure you that you will find excellent accommodation in Glasgow for well under your budget. Even the luxurious One Devonshire Gardens in the West End (a popular choice amongst celebrities visiting the city) is coming in at £129 in March! (I'm assuming your price is per night, since you have not specified a length of stay)

I think you'll have absolutely no problem finding a hotel for well under £150 that exceeds your expectations.

I'd always try to get into the Abode (Arthouse). Similar rates to Premier Inn etc (at least our corporate rate is) but a renovated older building with loads of character, some eccentricities and very comfortable beds!

I've stayed at the Central more times than I care to remember, from back when it was a bit of a shabby place to more recently when it's been refurbished and upgraded and is consequently more expensive than it used to be!

I do love it there, simply because it's a proper station hotel with an entrance from the concourse!

Alexander Thomson hotel 3 mins walk from Glasgow Central station looks outdated from the outside but the rooms are comfy and the bathroom is large and marble and the breakfast is buffet style continental and buffet style full English

I have stayed in the Jurys and Premier Inns referred to above - no issues with either and the Jurys has rooms overlooking the railway - you might get them cheaper due to the noise

Premier Inn Buchanan Galleries is also fine from my stay there last year. Not too far from Queen Street

Every Jury's or PI I've stayed at has been good. They are pretty consistent, too.

I've stayed at the Charing Cross Premier Inn - very convenient for Charing Cross Station as it sits right above it!

The IBIS on Bath Street is also very near to Charing Cross and was good when I stayed there back in November.

I've also stayed at the Buchanan Galleries Premier Inn which was good.

If you look at tripsdvisor, this hotel is consistently rated number one in the city and always has good deals. The location is excellent for Queen Street and the city centre. I've always heard good things about it.
