You never know...
People have gone to Scotland to try the HSTs - ultimately it's a HST in an alien livery in that part of the country so they may still go
Each to their own etc. I was lucky enough to have caned in all of the class 41/43 before they became popular and got some stick for going for my last few 43s back in the days before Valenta removal wasn't even on the table.
I will almost certainly head North of the border for a run on the new sets, not because they are HST, but because the last time I had a nice relaxed run from Glasgow / Perth etc to Aberdeen or up the middle was in loco hauled days. I just see little point in going up there for a poorly aligned and - to me - uncomfortable run on a 170 when my primary reason will be to sit and stare out of the window. I made a similar trip a year back on the Edinburgh to Plymouth HST, simply because it had been such a long time since I had enjoyed a trip down the classic route of "Table 51" and I wasn't likely to do it on a 220/221 for no other reason that I wanted to do it in an uncrowded train of decent length.
Trans Pennine is my next goal. A route I have done loads of times, but more recent trips have been on rammed 185s with no hope of a "pleasant" window gazing trip. New trains, more seats, fingers crossed.
As for the back on topic Hull trains. No great interest what ever to me because I could do the route easily / comfortably.
The context of course is stick a hauled set on it and I would be tempted with the rest!
