I want a tube station built in my garden! Only for me to use, obviously, as I don't want it getting overcrowded.

-SWT to bring back their Brighton service.

-SWT to bring back their West of Exeter service

-ATW to bring back their Manchester-Waterloo service

-Bring Barleston station back!

-Give Three Oaks, Doleham & Winchelsea back it's hourly service!!!

So, any comments, questions, points of veiws, etc?

Thanks,
Jim.

It is good to form opinions and to have a point of view, but it's important to remember that sadly train services are run for Profit and in some cases the benefit of passengers (or "customers" as they're now called:roll:) and not enthusiasts.

 I agree, but its just someone having a light-hearted debate! I guess sometimes its like fantasy football, but with trains!

People saying things like 'I'd like this...' or 'This or that must happen...' are unlikely to have much impact on the think tanks at Network Rail, DfT or the TOCs - unless someone tells me otherwise? Do they get their ideas from here? I doubt it!

It would be nice to see XC run some trains to and from Inverness, but again the issue with available rolling stock is raised.

No, but it has been reported that some surprising people (in high places) do read the forum. I don't mean to criticise any of the OPs ideas but some of them are not realistic at all - perhaps we should have a sort of forum sub-section for these 'fantasy' threads?

Discussed long ago, and nothing ever came of it. I think the main problem was that MattE2010 and myself would dominate the subforum and others would only be occasional posters. It would be nice though ;)

Could always do it by MSN or something? I know you had some kind of issue with posts before, so this is in theory a way around it! :p

I can't now though; I'm off to bed shortly.

I've agreed to this in the past

Nothing against "in an ideal world, I would like..." threads, but there needs to be a distinction between an idea with some cost/benefit analysis that can be applied to it and one which is clearly "pie in the sky"

There are a lot of youngsters on here!

I would like:

All voyagers destroyed instantly and replaced by services with proper carriages, proper locos and providing a bloody proper buffet.
All pacers destroyed and replaced by trains with proper carriages and locos
I want all Pendolinos taken out of servie and retro fitted with a) comfortable seats, which b) line up with the windows - sod it destroy them also and replace with either a or b
A personal train laid on for my personal use when i need it, regardless of the effect it has on the network
My job moved to Darlington
Darlington promted to the Premier League
More sex, more beer and more money
Me to have the power to strip LM of its franchise and replace it with my own TOC RHtrains!

Zoe - Thank you how could I have been so stupid!

It might cause trouble for say SWT or SR but what the hell, being the birthplace of the railways every train should pay homage!

Personally I don't think that it needs an hourly service because I don't think that there would be enough people to use it, although saying that that whole line needs to be upgraded to faster line speeds, double track as well as 3rd rail track (then again the Marshlink group wanted two trains an hour with a High Speed service stopping at all the local stops! apparently!!)

as for me  (even though these will never happen)

  • I want all pacers replaced and given to top gear to be destroyed instead of caravans! (or even dropping caravans onto the pacers / vice versa)
  • A Cross Country Service to Dover, although I don't think Voyagers / HSTs are allowed to go via Folkestone though!
  • Class 365s back in the southeast! (i.e. Kent)
  • Reopen Dover Western Docks, Folkestone Harbour and open a new "Parkway" station in Canterbury where the Chatham Main Line and Ashford - Ramsgate Lines cross (its not far from a Park & Ride anyway!) )

None of that really needs doing, but I would like to see LM do Gloucester - Worcester again, as I rely on public transport it's just a pain to get to Bromsgrove. I used the shuttle before and it seemed reasonably loaded at the time

Someone on this thread's mentioned a Portsmouth - Penzance service (which was run by Wessex Trains until FGW took over in 2006 AFAIK). I'd support the reintroduction of that since it provided a service to the West Country from the South Coast for those who were not willing (or unable) to change trains en-route. A 158 was used on that service; ideally, an HST would be used.

However, there are two problems. Firstly, HSTs cannot operate over Bursledon Bridge, so any service would have to be routed via Eastleigh, meaning that the service would lose a lot of passengers. Secondly, I doubt very much that FGW would be willing to spare an HST or 158.

Therefore, although this idea might be considered unreasonable, such a service can be run.

I'm not even going to go through your list of demands like many of the other have. I'm just going to leave you with a bit of wisdom from my Gran:

"I want disnae get."

Or an even older bit of wisdom-
Contentment lies not in getting what you want but in wanting what you've got.

I'm 9 ;) !

(Just to avoid any confusion, I'm not actually. Closer to 10. Although its marginal <D)

There are an amazing number of really young people into trains. Just go on youtube. Although you probably shouldn't all be giving your age online. </lecture>

Possibly being a bit harsh considering, but I don't think many of those are realistic. Can I second the BMW, food, beer, sex etc and add anything related to improving my own line (which will also not happen any time soon, no one cares about us out here).

EDIT: There seems to be a little confusion around, so just to make absolutely sure that everyone has seen through my evil ruse and that no one is panicking, I'm well over the age of 16.
