Following on from two recent(ish) posts by @stadler on the excellent Different Driver Depot, Route and Traction Cards and Different Guard Depot, Route and Traction Cards threads run by @craigybagel and (largely) @Horizon22 respectively, I've decided to collate the depot information for Iarnród Éireann traincrew. I will endeavour to keep this up to date but am reliant on information from others - if you notice any mistakes please do let me know and I'll update the list as soon as possible. Thanks very much for doing this. I would assume Rosslare is going to be low single figures and 22k/2900 for traction but I defer to @berneyarms and @Thewanderer for all things operational at Irish Rail!

As far as the lack of guards goes, the explanation for that is fairly simple; IR is almost entirely a DOO operation. Guards are only required on passenger trains that cross the border and run into Northern Ireland - hence the small complement at Dublin to run the Irish Rail staffed Enterprise services, and the guard at Dundalk for the twice daily Newry extension of the suburban services from Dublin.

Many services outside of the Dublin Suburban area carry other staff onboard for revenue and customer services, but as far as I know they're not actually required for the running of the train.

My pleasure! I find it fascinating.

That would explain it - thank you, I hadn't realised how far over to DOO IÉ had switched.

I really have found it interesting reading the drivers establishment lists as someone who use to write and allocate duties for drivers at my own depot during special working periods. What does have me rather confused, (not hard I know!) is Mullingar with one driver, do they do the same duty every day with the same rest days, how is annual leave or sickness covered etc?

I'm surprised Heuston drivers don't sign Limerick, years ago I rode down from Heuston to Limerick via the direct curve on the 10:45 x Heuston with a Heuston based driver.

I guess the Mullingar driver just inter-works with the Longford ones? There isn't even a service that originates at Mullingar for them to start with is there? There is the 2050 from Dublin though that terminates there.

Heuston have no work to Limerick now for a number of years with the last remaining job being the 1325 HN / LK, 1620 LK / HN on Sundays. Only have one job to Limerick for a big depot it was proving hard to resource so Limerick took it over. Weekdays Limerick directs are only peak hours only and Limerick work these. e.g. work up to Heuston and travel back to Limerick (2 jobs) or Limerick Jct. (2 jobs) to work a Limerick train in from the Jct.

In the afternoon 3 drivers travel to Heuston to work the 3 evening peak trains to Limerick. Of these 3, 1 travels all the way and 2 work a train to Limerick Jct. and then travel to Dublin. Handing the train over to the 2 drivers travelling ex Dublin from the morning.

I guess the Mullingar driver just inter-works with the Longford ones? There isn't even a service that originates at Mullingar for them to start with is there? There is the 2050 from Dublin though that terminates there.

The Mullingar driver works one of the evening Longfords - not 100% sure which one and travels back to Mullingar once the train is disposed of in Longford. Technically I think he comes under Longford but there is a longstanding agreement that he is Mullingar based as I'm sure he was based there even before Longford came a drivers depot.
I presume that the Portlaoise guards are for engineering trains out of the PW yard there.

Correct. PWD Guards.

Ah gotcha. Does the 2050 have a taxi ride / company car on the end of it then?
