Dear All, I wanted to obtain or advice / (reassurance!).

Video interview completed but sadly due to poor connectivity, my first question was a complete failure and has been marked as no more attempts.

The other 5 interviews I felt went extremely well and I managed to capture the key points I have prepared for.

Am I screwed or do I have some hope that the process takes into consideration things like this and other genuine errors.

I didn’t bother emailing as I feel it is what it is, but in all honesty I am devastated that this has happened.

Any thoughts appreciated - thank you.

Thanks alot, I did the video Recording and all I got was a message saying I will get contacted after reviewing the video. I did it last week and I am not sure if it went well or not but we shall see. Do they let you know if you have passed the video interview or not?

Hi. Since you have been through the process, do you remember what the competency based interview was like? Because I wanted to know what's the difference between the online interview and the competency interview

I think I am having the same issues with the OPC. I did an online recruitment process VSE with Arriva back in 2023 and that was their recruitment process but not the official OPC... I then went to watford to dobthe OPC for C2C and passed the first stage but failed only the MMI on the second stage. ... now when I applied for a Trainee role with ARL again they said I failed the OPC twice when I only went to the centre once. Now I am wondering if other rail company will say the same. If they will use the Arriva online as part of my second attempts

No the VSE done with Arriva is an OPC test as it takes you to the OPC website to login in to. Indeed it was poorly conveyed but it's the only test outside of the center that if you fail at home, will count to your two lives for any TOCs using the VSE in their process.

Now failing the mmi with c2c would mean with c2c(and any toc not using the vse), you have one more life left and any other TOC that doesn't use the VSE. With any Toc using the VSE in their assessment process like:

Arriva Overground, Elizabeth Line MTR, SE, Avanti and Chiltern you'd be considered out of their testing as two lives have been used between the mmi with c2c and vse with Arriva.

Hi Rf,

Sorry to hear Q1 in the video interview didn't go through correctly. I'm new to this myself so this is only my opinion (anyone else please correct me). I'd have thought that if high numbers apply, they use the online stages as a heavy sifting process. If true, that could place you in jeopardy. You're obviously passionate about it; so if there's any way to email etc to recruitment to explain, just try - can't hurt. Good luck anyway.

Top tip for the future - if you are doing online interviews, tests etc always make sure everything is working well a few days before. Don't try and do it from a mobile device with a poor 4g signal - a laptop or other computer on wi-fi will give you a much better connection and presentation. Loosing connection or dropping out might be seen as you not having prepared very well.

I once interviewed a chap on Teams - he was on a building site using his phone. He kept getting interrupted then having to find a new room then he eventually ended up outside in the rain., He couldn't hear a word we were saying as he didn't know how to turn the volume up..... he didn't get the job.

Had this email today.

We have received an unprecedented number of queries and are unable to respond to everyone individually. Please see below for some updates on where we currently are in the process:

    1. If you are waiting for certificates: Your status will remain as "Additional Information Requested." Once you have your certificates, please send them to (Redacted email address) If they meet our requirements, your status will be updated, and you may be invited to a video interview. Please note, we will not be reviewing new applications until the New Year.
    2. If you have submitted your documents and are awaiting further steps: If we continue recruiting later in the year, we may progress your application to the video interview stage. However, this is not guaranteed.
    3. If you have been invited to a video interview but have not completed it yet: Please ensure your video interview is completed by this Friday at 5:00 PM. Any incomplete interviews after this time will not be considered.
    4. If you have completed a video interview: We are currently shortlisting candidates and will be in touch as soon as possible. Please note that we conduct interviews in batches, and due to the high volume of applicants, it may take up to four months to hear back regarding the outcome.
    5. If you have taken the tests more than once: Our system will detect multiple attempts, and your application may be flagged. In this case, please withdraw your application to avoid further complications.
    6. If you applied for a role but are not currently located within 60 minutes of the depot: We will be checking postcodes shortly. If you do not meet this requirement, please withdraw your application.
    7. If you are waiting for replacement certificates: Your status will remain as "Information Requested." Once you have the required certificates, please send them to the email address above. If you cannot obtain your certificates within the next 30 days, please consider withdrawing your application.
We have received an unprecedented number of queries and are unable to respond to everyone individually. Please see below for some updates on where we currently are in the process.
Thank you for your patience and understanding as we manage this high volume of applications.

Emails for face to face interviews are coming through for those who've passed the Kings Cross video interview. Dates from 7th till 11th Oct. Had to withdraw from the position as already secured the Job elsewhere and so couldn't attend the interview, very surprised that they've got to the face to face so quickly. Best of luck to all those who've applied and the one or two that may have been given an opportunity with the withdrawal of my application!

Received rejection email after the video interview. Will I still be eligible to apply for the same position in the future?

I’ve not been invited to an interview as of yet. But I’d say those with the early batch won’t hear nothing until the 3 lots (7th, 10th and 14th if I’m right?) have all been spoken to and then reviewed them? Give it a little longer bud and I’m sure you’ll get an answer back.

Last Interviews were the 14th of October, basically yesterday. Can expect a 7-10 day(23rd - 28th October) wait from that date for possible DMI results for those who went, that was what I was roughly expecting, result date wise, had I still been in the process and selected a DMI date(withdrew myself once dates arrived).

If LNER are doing the results in order of dates however and not grouped like above then the 7th October Interviewees would still have till the 16th at Minimum to hear back and then 21st of October roughly would be the 10th working day.

10th interviewees would have till the 21st Oct minimum to be within the results feedback window and the 10th day would be the 24th October

Either way its really and truly a case of "How long is a piece of string?" and LNER will get back to those attendees within the month if there not delayed heavily by other reasons.

Thanks for the quick response! I'm still waiting to hear back following the Video Interview however I understand the DMI's are done in batches so could be a substantial wait for feedback - Good Luck Everyone!

Yeah Video interviews will be moved in batches. I believe there was a Newcastle campaign not long ago and the same process occurred there. Some that pass the DMI will still need to pass the OPC so there may be unfortunate fall outs(plus those that don't make it past the DMI), that will create some fortunate movement for those held in stages.

Had my interview at King's Cross today! Thought it went not-great, could've been worse though - they told me they'd be surprised if I didn't hear the result by the end of tomorrow.

I had my interview today, too. That’s a good sign if they said you would hear the results tomorrow. They said I would hear back next week.

Hello everyone! Just a quick question does anyone done the VSE with Chiltern Rail before? I have one coming up and I am not sure if it is similar to the Arriva Rail one or LNER... can one give me an idea of what to expect as with Arriva I had a matching symbols plus a train track with a dot going around the circle, but I didn't do well on that so I need advice if the Chiltern one coming up will be similar so I can better prepare myself. Many Thanks

I have done OPC for Chiltern and the Arriva one sounds exactly the same

Nothing heard back from Newcastle DMI on 14th. Though I know several others who interviewed around the same time who have heard back. So it’s a waiting game I guess .
