Two things worth mentioning here:
Firstly the inclines on the S&C are not particularly steep, hence the name The Long Drag. To my knowledge bankers have never been used on the line and double headed trains were only run during the Midland Railways tenure due to their small engine policy.
Secondly, I would be pretty annoyed if when waiting for my train I saw a class 66 hove into view. Such things might be suitable for a bashers grand day out but nothing else other than what they were designed for.
Lets get back to reality and hope that the ROSCOs / DfT can be encouraged to start ordering some more DMUs.
