43059 and 43049 are currently on their way back to Crewe as 5Z44. Interestingly, 43059 has the words 'Pullman' with the omission of 'Midland'.

Quite possibly, it wasn’t very happy on its last trip out (the Kyle of Lochalsh trip where it started smoking very heavily). It hasn’t been out since.

But what I find odd, is that 083 was a runner and has since found itself stored outside in Eastleigh. 058 is a runner and was recently on a Crewe > Eastleigh > Crewe trip with 049. While 058 will no doubt get 055s engine in time once reconditioned, it just seems a little bit of an odd way of doing it.

D1944 (47501) 'Craftsman' is no longer part of the active LSL fleet, having been withdrawn. Rumours going around of the loco being put on display at the Margate site after reusable components have been removed to keep the rest of the fleet in traffic.

If anyone is interested, and as Carl has updated his website now, 142007 has been outshopped in Regional Railways GMPTE/Regional Railways North West livery, following on from 003 in GMPTE orange.

Unfortunately, 47501 wasn't the most reliable of locomotives when DRS owned it

Indeed, although when it went, it went like a rocket. I believe there were some power unit / generator issues which led to excessive current being passed through the electrical system and to the traction motors with predictable results.

That would mean the diesel engine must have been operating above rated setting. Often happened with 50s set up at a depot.

Correct. A session on the load bank would normally identify the problem.

I doubt it as it appears to be retaining the class 57 lighting arrangements on each end

Just returning it to it's as-converted class 57 appearance, seeing as LSL see no requirement for Dellner couplers in their usual business activities.

I have 40808 and 40902 as being at Eastleigh for LSL. Is this still the case?

Yes, though I believe nothing has happened with those as of yet. For a while, it did look a little like a Laira Depot dumping ground with 41167, 40808, 40902 and 46006 all down the back.

No, the original system used the coaching stock lighting circuits but the ScotRail set has now been fitted with a dedicated hard-wired system specially for the DBSO control, for robustness and reliability.

It's all Blue Star multiple controlled. The original push-pull system is long since obsolete - and no doubt long since skipped for the DBSOs as they were converted to standard TDM in the late 1980s/early 90s. The DBSO involved had been fitted with Blue Star capability for use on the Cumbrian Coast with Class 37s, so make sense to fit 47712 similarly.

I believe the control now runs through the multi-working jumper so the original TDM cables are no longer used and are retained just for authenticity.

To be pedantic, I believe it's a modification of the green circle MW system, as that is what is fitted to 47712 and other 47s in the LSL fleet.
