It would be nice if they could sneak 507001 onto the Ormskirk line for a day. The other 777/0-worked routes all still see 507/8s deputising on a regular basis, but the Ormskirk line less so. It only tends to get them when Everton play at home now.

507013 was back in service working the .50 departures from Liverpool Central to New Brighton this afternoon, following its breakdown on Christmas Eve.

507001 on WKI circuits. Currently 1521 WKI WKI.

Have not noted any 508s. Doesn't mean there aren't any
So it came out to play, was sitting on Birkenhead depot at lunchtime (before looking like it was attaching to 507011).

507013 was out yesterday evening on New Brighton services

The West Kirby diagram finishing with 2W46 now runs ECS to Birkenhead North E.M.U.D. not Kirkdale C.S. so unless its moved over to the Northern line later tonight, will most likely start from Birkenhead North depot tomorrow - there is now one Southport-Hunts Cross diagram which starts out from Birkenhead North depot (on 5S02) so there is a chance 507001 could be working on the Northern line tomorrow.

Thanks for keeping me right, I was just going through a quick rake through RTT and trying to piece things together that way. As an update, 508104+508114 at the wall sidings at SOP and 507002 is stabled at Southport sidings, hopefully these three will see some turns tomorrow.

507029 is the only PEP on West Kirby turns, currently working 2W17

507001 at New Brighton awaiting departure with the 2N30 1338 departure, think it did this diagram yesterday if I'm correct? :?:

Passed 507.001 in the Mersey Tunnel today (30 December) on what was probably the 13:38 ex-New Brighton. Also passed an unidentified 3 car 507 or 508 on a Chester service .

How do you get Merseyrail unit information on RTT?

It appears 508114 & 508104 will be working on the Southport - Hunts Cross line today as a 6 car, departing Southport at 0757.

507001 working on New Brighton line, departing New Brighton at 0823.

Chester will have one 507 working - 507011

Ellesmere Port will have two 507 workings - 507014 & 507029.

Thank you for this. Popped out and got a good ride in as all-508 six-cars are definitely on borrowed time now.

Southport line formations today, starting with 11.36 from Hunts X were: 508104 + 508114, 507021 + 507033, 507007, 507004, 507023.

Stabled at Southport were: 507002, 507013, 507018 and 507028 in addition to 507020; Kirkdale had 507017.

The West Kirby line had, starting with 1431 off Wekka: 507010, 508108, (777003). The other New Brighton unit out was 507016.

507031 started the day at New Brighton sidings, but was hauled to Birkenhead North by 507032. The latter had run from Kirkdale and possibly Southport earlier. It later was seen shunting with 507015 outside North.

Thanks for helping on the units not seen, I never managed to catch the 507 on the West Kirby, it past by in the tunnel and never managed to make it to Southport to see what was in the sidings.
Given only 25 507/508 units left now, you can narrow it down though.

Does anyone know where 508104, 8 and 14 are today ? Any Info most welcome. Would provide a handy move after 319368 on Wigan MCV. (See Northern 319 thread if you need more). Thanks in advance.

508 108 is on West Kirkbys and 508 114 is on Southports, according to the urgent TOPS thread.

I'm surprised actually - I thought everyone was saying the lease on the 508s expired last night? Have these three got a short extension?

Thanks for the gen. This helps much. I am not sure of the date of 31st, must have been extended if so. Someone posted a scrap move next Monday 8th I think ? If so two of three could be gone by later this week ?

Great to see 508114 running well on the Southport line tonight and proving quite a few earlier posters wrong. Of course it's only for a few more weeks, but wasn't there supposedly 'no chance' any 508s would see service in 2024? Great to see them still fighting on.

508104 is stabled on platform 1 at Southport in front of 507004 for tomorrow.

One thing that would hugely appreciated is advance notice of the last planned 508 public journey. I'm sure there quite a few of us who like these trains who would love to be on that journey for posterity.

Yes, it's just completing the 1857 Southport - Hunts Cross now and its next working will be the 2006 Hunts X - Southport. Good luck if you're going for it!

508104 heading to Birkenhead? Potentially not a good sign considering there’s a scrap move booked next week.

Indeed, that's what I feared. On previous form, though not 100%, units tend to come out on the Tues Weds for a Monday scrap move. So perhaps another tomorrow?

507001 is on xx08 NBNs.

Once 508s have gone, I think I am right in saying that that's it for the old SR style (as in sound, not model) compressor as adorning EPBs, CEPs CIGs 442s etc & probably ancestors. Happy to be corrected by the more fluid with knowledge.

508114 compressor in 646xx car is probably the best I've heard in 508s. A real monster. Motors aren't bad either for the thrash merchants... Get them while you can eh.

Forgive my ignorance but I can't find the 5T61 move from Southport to Birkenhead you were referring to. It certainly isn't appearing on RTT unless it's been removed for some reason?

It was done in two parts as outlined below. For some reason both are now showing as cancelled, both did run, however bypassing Kirkdale depot.
Quite common now for 507/08 ECS moves from Southport to bypass Kirkdale C.S. with the ECS move continuing straight onto Birkenhead North E.M.U.D. upon arriving at Sandhills - as happened this morning. Often the drivers change at Sandhills, which I presume is due to which route the drivers are able to sign.
The 507/08's are now a rare species on Kirkdale depot with only a handful stabled overnight, usually during service hours its common not to see any stabled.

No problem...curious indeed. It actually shows to Sandhills. It shows cancelled but it ran 0945. A separate path ex Sandhills.

Thanks both, that makes sense now. Lets hope 104 makes it out again before it's inevitable withdrawal!

Apologies. Didn't see you reply before my posting below.

Noted today. 03 01 24

508114 is on 0751 HNX SOP. This means it should work
SOP 0912, 1142,1412, 1642 etc
HNX 1021 1251 1521 etc

507001 noted on xx53 NBN services

No sign of 508104.

All above can change of course

Noted 507032 on CTRs. 0700 departure etc.

Hoping to catch a ride tonight, if anybody knows any better - If i've worked it out right it should arrive into WKI at 1912 on 2W47 later (booked platform 1). I would presume it then works 2W51 at 1931 (booked platform 1). There is an ECS departure after it arrives however from Platform 2 (5B46 to Birkenhead depot, which I would assume should be the 777 that terminates on 2W46 platform 2 at 1857) and not 508108? If that makes sense... hoping 108 works the late shifts so I can drive up to West Kirby for a trip.

Thanks for the info.

I can happily inform you that 508104 has just been given back by Birkenhead North and will be back in traffic later tonight. (And yes I did just create an account to put you at your ease)

Yes, you've worked it out right. The 1912 arrival at WK normally (well, always in my experience) stays out and does the 1931.

Saw 508108 at Liverpool Central working the 1455 to West Kirby earlier so still on same diagram.

Reported in the MerseyRailways 2.0 FB group that 108 and 114 will be stood down at end of service tonight.

Leaves just 104 for the 508s that will still be in service after today..

That's correct. If diagrams hold
508108 does 1931 2101 2231 WKI-WKI stable WKI
508114 definitely worked 1412 ex SOP. should work
HNX-SOP 1521 1751 2051 2321
SOP-HNX 1642 1942 2212.

Of course things can change.

507001 ends after 1853 NBN NBN
507032 will be on Chesters (if still in diagram ( dep 1601, 1731, 1900, 2030, 2200.)

Yes, quite right. I'm on 507032 now forming the 1601; thanks for the gen.

A shame to see 508108 and 114 going. Only thing 104 has over the other two is working rheostatic braking. Otherwise, it is the worst riding of the three; squeaks galore.
