The areas under threat look like they're going to get another 1987 and we all know how bad that was.

That was 100mph winds as well and it caused 18 deaths and £1 billion worth of damage.

Cue Thursdays pictures of upturned caravans on the North Wales coast.

A months worth of rain expected before Friday with 3 more storms due by Tuesday.

Wow, I remember 87 well. Travelled down to London the day after for the Ripple Lane open day. Hope the weather here in sunny Liverpool isn't as bad again this time, looks like I'll be leaving earlier than usual for work.

Mind you the wind is terrible here in Worcester so I do hope we dont get much more rain and wind as the flooding is bad enough now

I see the blanket term of "the north-west" has been included without giving any idea of what they are referring to. Do they mean from the Wirral up to Carlisle and it is just the coastal regional areas or does it refer to the land-area inland as far as the Pennines ?

Here on the Cheshire East area near to the inland hills it has been quite breezy with a couple of showers, interspersed by a calm sunny period and it is now 16:15 hours.

Wow, you don't often see a red weather warning; I don't think I've ever seen a wind one before!

Enjoying Worcester then are we? I was sent home early from school today at 1300 due to the weather. This is a photo I took earlier from the bottom of my school gardens:

The gales are retribution for smug people like me who live on a hill and had avoided the floods...

Mainly coastal, but significantly quite a way inland. Looks like the Pennines will have the added problem of snow to deal with too.

I will be more worried if our roof protection is under threat, as our 200 year old property has large stone slabs, not lightweight slate tiles, as our method of roofing.

That sounds interesting...does that mean that you have no tiles at all - slate or otherwise?

Mind sending some of that water our way? There's been a bushfire burning in mid-north South Australia for 30 days now, the area burned so far is larger than Kent and nine towns have been threatened at various times.

Hope you all do okay with the upcoming storms.

We've only had moderate winds here in Leicestershire (obviously not coastal, but related to the recent weather nonetheless), quite a bit of rain though and even a brief period of snow yesterday, but not enough of either to cause any major disruption. The River Soar hasn't even flood it's plains, let alone anything else.

This red warning doesn't look good for the Cambrian Coast, which has already taken quite a beating already from the storms in the past week.

Sounds very windy outside here in Ilkley - and the service to Leeds is suspended. Just in time for Mrs O on her way back from London :(

Winds got really strong here on East Coast. I remember the '87 storm and dont remember those winds being as strong as this. No chance of flooding as im also on a hill so just hoping i dont have to put in a claim for roof repairs.

None whatsoever. If one of our stone roofing item ones came off , I would most certainly not like to be anywhere in the region below...

We have the roof examined on a nine-monthly basis, in order that matters are in good order.

Stone slabbed roof? I've never heard of that before in a property of that age.

I think Leicester has got away with it quite lightly. Some gusts of wind but that's about it.

Was a bit chaotic this evening, and I certainly didn't hang around at work after finishing time! Luckily I was aware of goings on as I had been out in the car only half an hour before finishing time and heard the traffic reports

I think someone was a bit quick on the camera with this, as I don't think it took long for it to fall over entirely - as I suspected as I was driving over the other way, it was at Scammonden Res - a very very exposed bridge! Looks like it has also only been removed - but I guess there is little use in trying to right such a vehicle with the wind still so strong...it'd just go over again!

M62 J22-23 closed to high siders (now extended to cover J18-24), I'm guessing to avoid repeat incidents. Was anyone taking any notice at all...of course not!!!

My commute to and from work takes me along the M27 and this evening I could feel the wind push against the car: I ended up slowing down because I was worried about losing control.

Interestingly enough the overhead gantries warned of long delays between junctions 4-31 of the M25. Chances are the M25's still gridlocked.

There is a video on ITV where they inadvertently recorded a huge tree falling into the River Severn in the centre of Worcester earlier. I've seen mangled umbrellas a-plenty today!

Just been watching the BBC 24 news service CH 80 Where it was announced that an east coast main line service and I quote "is trapped on the north York Moors!" It would be trap if it was routed via the moors.
