Thanks
@Cowley
It's been a while since I last updated due to other priorities.
I have decided to move to a more modern era in some ways, different area in others. It all started when I decided to do some load testing of freight rakes to identify which locos could pull which rake.
Locos
My Mainline locos are on the out with D823 sold & my 56 on eBay. Their pulling power was awful. The 56 is still listed, DCC fitted if you want a crazy loco!
I have also started the phase out of the BR steam era & will replace it with main line charter era, some locos will go with my GT 18000 listed, more will follow.
I have 3 locos on order, from Accurascale & Cavalex.
MUs
I have sold some units, class 395 & now 220 as their performance was poor and the class 401,402,403 as too old an era. I am down to just a 410/411 (12), 450 (8), 491TC (8) and a class 800.
I have also decided to sell a HST, the GWR liveried Castle set. The coaches sold quickly but the power pack has yet to sell. I still have my First GW set which I remember more.
I have got bored of units!
Coaches
I have cleared out my Hornby 2e rake as I had no chance of completing it to a full WR rake and a few Bachmann 2a coaches as I am switching to Accurascale 2b/2c rakes.
I also sold my GWR HST mk3s.
I am also downsizing my early BR blood & custard & Maroon rakes and have bought my 1st West Coast Railways coach to form the future charter set. Eventually these rakes will be one charter set with a small charter loco fleet.
Wagons
This has been an area of huge change. After 10 years of painfully trying to build full rakes, I decided on a change of tact than many could consider.
I have a 21 wagon rake of Dapol HIAs, all unique - great
I have 12 CDAs from Accurascale, under half a rake
My Heljan Cargowagons have been sold as they just keep derailing and I only managed to form a rake of 5
My Accurascale short HYAs have also been sold, just 12 wagons but like hauling bricks, far too heavy and unimaginably expensive & too heavy for a full 24 wagon rake.
My Dapol ballast rake is 19 wagons, but I might shorten this one
My Contaner wagon rake has reached 17 wagons and it's like pulling teeth getting good wagons for a decent price.
So what have I gone & done?
I discovered HO wagons from Roco, and others.
In a matter of just 1 month, I have formed 2 rakes of wagons, one of 20 container type wagons and one of 18 mixed wagons and they look great, have huge variety, don't derail, are easy to haul and aren't noticeably smaller than OO wagons. Costs are between £15 and £35 per wagon and wow what wagons!
Real concrete not plastic : -
Actual steel rolls: -
Articulated wagons
great detail
stunning quality
all sorts of containers, standard, tanks, curtain side, lorry trailers, bulk materials
all sorts of loading ways
And cargo wagons that are cheap at £20-25 and run well
