Are any of you guys learning circuit theory type questions for the interview? Or any type of electrical/mechanical type of questions. Please advise if you are and what areas.

Also anyone that has done an interview have you been asked any theory type questions.

Give it a shot, the age cap was taken off years ago. You wouldn't be the first.

On NR website it says that last year the oldest apprentice was 35 and 6% were 25 and over. Not sure if there are many locations left for the 2011 intake though.

So by the sounds of it only one person on here has heard back , suppose we don't know how it works the interviews could be fairly spaced out

Yeah I had my interview at Newcastle, but haven't recieved a reply yet. I was told it should take about 2weeks but I suppose theres a lot of people for them to get through!

Just I hadn't seen anyone mention that area! ;p

Didnt get it gutted. good luck to everyone else.

Sorry to hear Jamdogg...Good luck if you try again oneday!

Ive been occasionally following this thread too, as ive had an apprenticeship offer come my way lately, well two in fact! But which one to go for I cant work out…

First Great Western - Good company, ive worked with quite a few of the FGW Staff, a lot of them are good friends of mine, enjoyed working with several of them on my college organised work experience (despite being 19!)...and overall i like the prospect of working for First Group, But...

Ive also now had an offer from Balfour Beatty Rail - For a position as an apprentice track plant technician at Ashford...So its an offer from First Great Western as a apprentice depot technician...

Looking into the details of each apprenticeship, FGW Will obviously bring free travel Throught the FGW network, and discounted travel with other TOCs, whilst Balfour Beatty brings no railway travel perks, but does bring the offer of learning to drive – potentially aiming for a company van?

Tough choices!

Where's the FGW one based? I was speaking to one of the OOC guys a few weeks ago when I was down there, and he mentioned they were looking for fitters and rolling stock techs. The pay and working arrangements seemed really good. I don't know what BB are like (but I know what you'll be working on, stoneblowers, tampers, all manner of OTM's), but if Old Oak is indicative of what you could potentially get at the end, FGW sound pretty good.

I've got an assessment with First Capital Connect. It seems like the apprenticeship scheme ive applied for is similar to yours except mine is based in London.
Additionally i've also applied for SWTrains but have yet to hear back.

That is correct. I take it you've passed your interviews and being offered places? If so, congrats!

Not yet, its almost becoming a two horse race at the moment, Balfour Beatty should be sending out there details towards the end of this week, whilst the college that deals with FGWs apprenticeships is sending out theres about today - or so im told!

Either way, cheers and good luck with yours too! Did get a heads up about SWTs apprenticeships from a friend, but i do find SWT can be abit of a funny company to work for sometimes...and the fact it would have ment commuting to Wimbledone almost each day of the week - Sounds rather ironic considering the Ashford ones further away, but at least BB Rail were also offering... • Able to lodge in the Ashford area (at the companies expense) if the home location is more than an hour from the Ashford depot - House Share with other apprentices or rooms at kent colleges campus perhaps?

But, either way ill be applying for both - that way, if im not sucessfull with BB Rail then ive happily still got FGW & vice versa...Now thats the better way of doing things!

SWtrains are really slow to get back to people but hopefully they will provide me with another chance! I would have thought FGW would be fantastic to work for if you get to maintain their HST fleet and MK3's. They are fantastic pieces of machinery compared to most of the recent stuff. Revise, stay focused and i know you will succeed.

As most of you have had your interviews I'd be interested in any more tips you may have, my interview is on Wednesday. I've spent £200 on a suit and polished my shoes to a mirror finish, so really hope I get it now!

thats what i did to man trying to make as good an impression as possible i wasnt sure where the depot i was getting interviewed at was either so i ended up 45 mins early lol
the only advice i can give you is be confident and make sure you have thought of lots of examples for things some that come to mind are working outside, working at height (altho that might just be for positions in OHL) ehh and like times when you stuggled to overcome a chalange
and lastly good luck mate
