You would probably get a better response if you just posted the question as I am sure there are a least a few ex NR or retired staff on here. Unless of course its not something you want in the public domain!

As GB said, better to post it publicly.

Let's face it, if it's covered in the rule book, it ain't private!

because its reguarding our lineside keys
They are quite often left in locks, on top of fences, walls, etc

I suspect the person responsible is still not required to sign keys in and out

Equally, many people don't know what to do with them or how to report them when found!

I recently found a set of keys next to a signal ladder on a platform, after 30 minutes there was no person from Network Rail present and there was no road vehicle nearby
I tried to hand them in at the nearest manned station but the person there was reluctant to take them, so in the end I sent them to Network Rail by Recorded delivery

The only issue there is the reply may not be accurate
I last held my PTS in 1998 and although the basics have not changed many of the rules have changed (some of which seem rather daft and pointless)

:D:D:D

I have a set of lineside keys, long since I left. They are so useful for opening the gate to the P'Way depot at my local station to park the car when going up to town. Have you seen the cost of the station car park these days. :D:D:D

I'm sure they're worth a few bob to a didikai who needs to nick some lineside copper cable!!!! :D:D:D:D

Caveat alert for those of a serious disposition, :D:D:D signify jest,

Gippos dont need line side keys, they are issued with them at birth.
A big pair of bolt cutters or a 6 foot long crow bar, or a petrol powered grinder.
I have on my other key chain, a 21 key , carriage key, whistle and a key that will undo any line side gate.
Also a mobile phone, which if you put 81 in front of any railway internal number will call the same,
This is part of the everyday kit that I need to do my job on the big iron road.
If you are concerned about the keys you found, hand them in to the local PW Depot or Police Station.

Just to set people straight i am a network rail employee and i have my own lineside keys and i havent found any keys.

I have found the answer to my question now it was reguarding another employee that was all.

All the best.

Thats interesting as I have five different lineside gate keys, and a 221 on my key ring and I still find gates I can not open.

That'll be eejits replacing padlocks with cheaper models when they fail, rather than getting a "new" standard one.

Had a bunch of LU contractors who thought it was a good idea to replace the RK222 padlock on our main gates with their own (LU standard) lock a couple of years back. Had to cut the chain to open the station next morning. The side gates, meanwhile, use a No. 5 padlock key.

Cheers,

Barry

Different standard locks are used in different areas.

Hence I have five different standard keys, six if you count a particually shoddy type that I have a new and a worn copy of to give me a reasonable chance of getting the padlocks open.

It would help if LNW had just the ONE standard padlock in the West Midlands rather than at the latest count FIVE different sizes of key to fit what is numbered to be the same padlock.
