New Paper Tickets

My apologies if this has been discussed before, but I wasn't able to find anything. At Leeds station I noticed the attached sign referring to 'new paper tickets', and presumably the ticket gates cannot accept them. Unfortunately the photo is quite blurry, but they appear to clearly have a different shape to the tickets currently used, and I was wondering if anyone had any information on them?

These tickets with the barcode have been around for a few years haven't they? With QR codes on them.

Hello.

Yes these tickets are the new style ones that are printed on Star Mobile machines (a replacement for avantix) that are being rolled out (pardon the pun) to Northern and TPE conductors.

To exit the gate with one, you will find a QR code and scan it at the gate but unfortunately the only stations fitted with QR scanners that I know of are Liverpool Lime Street, Wigan Wallgate and possibly Manchester Victoria.

I think all VTEC managed stations have the scanners fitted.

I noticed this sign yesterday and it advises to approach a member of gateline staff in a "yellow vest". Were there any staff in yellow vests? Not one!

So basically Northern are doing it on the cheap and have not properly adapted their barriers, but other TOCs have.

I really hope that these tickets dont come to SWT / FGW / SN / SE at all. They look too large and too thin. I would prefer if they just kept the good old RSP 9299 Avantix tickets.

Ah yes, I should have guessed that they would have something to do with the new on board machines.

They look too large and too thin.

I imagine they will be a bit flimsy, but hopefully since they are only issued on-train they might stay relatively intact until the passenger leaves the station!

Paper rather than card is a backward step. I remember the old paper tickets sold on board and they were far too easy to lose or tear.

They are huge. Excessively so. A Northern Duo is about the length of a toilet roll, or so it seems when someone hands one to you that's folded many times to get it into their bag or pocket.

Seen the size of them? This is the future. Size wise no bigger tham the elgar tickets that used to be seen yet made of paper so can be folded safely. Will be seen across the network soon. Sharpies cant be wiped off and along with batcode scamners now being seen in use on board it will now be easier to tell if SORs are being used as seasons.

TPE introduction delayed due to battery issues (based on samsung galaxy smartphones, burst into flames) wont start training until 2017

SWT are using ATOS Envoy and it will issue tickets on normal credit card size tickets.
