131 is showing as working a 1041 5H55 Allerton to Edge Hill this morning. Nothing for 132 yet though. 133 doesn't seem to be in the system.

Thanks Geeves. I guess that inadvertently meant that I first asked Geeves. Bit of an internet blast from the past.

Known issues, at least on this forum. Bizzarely the sister 331 units are actual very smooth so it's unclear to me why the 195s are so jerky.
This is my experience also. The 331s are serene in comparison apart from the loud thud/bang once in a while from the pantograph. Surely Northern and CAF are aware of the bouncy 195 problem and will be looking at ways to mitigate this over the coming months and years.

I'm not sure I'd go as far as serene, the noisy air compressors & ventilation system also add up. I'll have to try a 195 at some point to see how I get on with the ride quality.

To be fair that's in line with most EMUs in my experience.
Perhaps but the 331 was definitely the worst for it I found. How well you can deal with a noise depends on how it continues over time. The continuous roar of Desiro AC is far less annoying than something cycling on and off loudly every couple of minutes.

From what I've heard, that's due to the design of the brake controller, nothing to do with driver behaviour/policy.
That's what I thought. I hope the TFW class 196 are better, in terms of brakes and seating layout. I don't fancy travelling up the Marches for three years in such a poor train.

Hi all, thanks to the great info in this thread I've got all 195 units has being in service except for:
003, 006, 018, 020, 021, 023
101, 113, 122, 129, 131, 132, 133

Are any of the above actually in service and I've just missed that info? If so, could anyone advise roughly when they entered service please?
And if not in service do we know their current state of play please?

Thanks in advance!

Pretty sure only 021, 131, 132, 133 aren’t in service now.

Anyone know if 195132 has done a test/mileage run since it was delivered around the 28th July?

Seen southbound through Platform 1 at Wigan NW on 28th August around lunchtime. Didn't check the working as I was in the Swan & Railway talking to the landlord whilst doing some beer sampling :)

101 123 and 129 are all on the Liverpool to Manchester Airport via Warrington Central jobs today. :D

132 and 133 showing at Allerton and still no update on 133 just shows that the unit does not exist!

195003 and 195006 have been in service for a while now, definitely since before lockdown. 018 has been in service, but noticed it parked in Doncaster last week so may now be on driver training duties

The pads and discs dont really get much use except at very low speed so no doubt that will add to the sounds levels. Good news on the 195s on the Hope Valley, hopefully they can keep up the perfect timetable of the last few months.
Will the 195 Also go to rose Hill Marple and will they be in use as soon as the 26th October on the proposed 90 minute service Manchester Piccadilly to rose Hill Marple

They've started on the Hope Valley today....
0742 MAN - SHF: 195105
0945 MAN - SHF: 195124

0743 to Rose Hill from Piccadilly.
What other services are booked to be 195 on the hope valley line in general and after December this year will 195 operate all services on the romiley line and Al'so the Manchester oxford road to liverpool Lime Street services.

See my post 4437 above.

195105 at Dore & Totley today. Shame it's still only a 2 hourly service on Sundays, the second busiest day of the week for leisure users into the Peak District - where it's never been busier than 2020!

I've noticed that they seem to be driven in an almost European style "positive braking" manner, i.e. come in very fast and slam on at the last second. This isn't the usual UK thing at all, so I guess the unit makes it difficult to do otherwise?
Can anyone say why the UK braking policy is so different from "European style positive braking matter" which, from my experience, cuts journey times?

Depends what "higher" means, surely.
A journey is better with the highest possible levels of safety, than taking risk and saving a few minutes.

Exactly. If there's one thing that the last 6 months has taught us, it's that a lot of people do not understand risk.

From what I've seen people just don't care and aren't careful and that why we're all heading for a 2nd wave just because of certain people being irresponsible muppets.

Anyway back on topic.
