I went to my local station to reserve a seat on board but was told that because it's a Northern service you can't reserve seats. Does anyone have any idea how it will work, because if it's a free for all it'll be standing room only!
Having issues getting a reservation for this. Also, will the dayrover be valid? Help appreciated
As noted above, the Settle & Carlisle Day Ranger is valid:Day rovers aren't valid, only Leeds Keighley.

The usual ticket prices will apply and passengers will be able to use railcards such as the Dales Railcard, Senior and other national railcards to obtain a discount. The S&C Day Ranger is also available.

Through the use of seat numbers, the same as any other reservable train service or railtour.Realistically, how are they going to enforce reservations on this train?
Yes, seat reservations can be made free of charge at any ticket office independent of a ticket purchase (assuming that the trains have been loaded into the system as I mentioned above). I got asked to also present the ticket I would be using when making my reservations, so it might be useful for you to have it with you at the time you make the reservation.I'm going to get a Settle and Carlisle Day Ranger for this, could I get seat reservations using this?
Standing is not permitted on these trains, so as long as you have a seat reservation you should have no problem reaching your seat. It looks like passengers without a reservation will only be permitted to board if there are unreserved seats remaining (unlikely). See the Settle - Carlisle Railway website:how is this going to work? surely the trains will simply be rammed. I would love to travel but cant see a way of ensuring i can even get on the train let alone to my seat!

Demand is expected to be extremely high and customers are strongly advised that only those with a seat reservation will be assured of a seat. Walk-up tickets (ie, those without seat reservations) do not guarantee a place on the train. There will be no standing permitted on these services.
They've said no standing room so provided you manage to get a seat reservation it shouldn't feel rammed.how is this going to work? surely the trains will simply be rammed. I would love to travel but cant see a way of ensuring i can even get on the train let alone to my seat!

From the same page:ok! how do we reserve? Have the plans been released?
If you're referring to seating plans, then I don't think there is one. You take the seat that you are allotted. The steam trains will form part of the revised timetabled service and tickets will be available from the usual retail channels. For the best price, and to book a seat, visit www.northernrailway.co.uk or go to any railway booking office. The usual ticket prices will apply and passengers will be able to use railcards such as the Dales Railcard, Senior and other national railcards to obtain a discount. The S&C Day Ranger is also available.
For further information, contact Northern, the train operator, on 0800 200 6060. Please note this is not a booking service.
Thanks for confirming this, I was curious if normal rules regarding staff travel would apply - I was assuming that they would.Free staff travel is permitted on the service but staff are requested to give up their seat if a fare paying passenger requires it. Priv rate is allowed.
Yes. I had no bother picking up reservations with my staff pass at lunchtime, so priv rate tickets should be the same. Can you get a reservation with a priv rate ticket?
If you have a seat reservation then presumably you cannot possibly be asked to give up your seat, as you hold the only valid reservation for it. Rail staff giving up their seats presumably only applies to the unreserved portion of the train, under which scenario I have no idea. What happens if someone boards on route and I am requested to give up my seat?
Conjecturally, that seems like a high proportion of unreserved coaches, given that, if reservations are being allocated sequentially down the train from Coach A Seat 01 as per robbeale's post, they had already filled by 12:30pm today two and a half of the reserved carriages for the 10:44 Skipton - Appleby and 14:57 return on the 15th. No idea how bookings for the other trains might be going, or if this is indeed the method they are the following. There will be seven (7) coaches. Four (4) are reservable, three (3) are not.
