The seat covers on the refurbished 185s for TPE (despite being a Huddersfield native I'm not a textile specialist and to be honest don't even know what distinguishes "moquette" from other sorts of material:oops:) don't seem to be holding up too well to the rigours of the Ale Trail too well... unless it's the "plebs" of Deighton, Batley and Slaithwaite/Marsden that are unable to keep hold of their overpriced Pumpkin cappuccinos!

They are too light a colour, and the beige leather in 1st is even worse. They should have gone for a rich dark blue in Standard (with darker blue leather headrest) and a dark grey leather in 1st perhaps with some blue piping.

507021's Update
Great
However I can't find that any of the 8 Scotrail 158s now have Universal Toilets etc
Could anyone tell me when/where these were done please?
Thank you
Brian

They visited Loughborough at (I think) the start of last year for some mods so I presume it was then. They didn't receive PIS, however, so this shall need to be fitted.

782 did go to LB 12/2016, 786 2/2017 and 789 4/2017 for C6+ so could well have had some or all PRM mods then
867/68 and 869 had their previous C6s at ZH rather later, haven't visited LB since and I am not aware they've been to ZH either

Yet the refurbed 158's, which for reasons known only unto Northern Rail, have been deemed necessary to have their seats replaced altogether, have had their original seating retrimmed in traditional sturdy moquette. Perhaps they should be using this material in their 150's instead.
This was the original material (installed also on the 150s when they were using Arriva-coloured poles before settling on yellow). Still looks lovely.

Yes, that looks a bit more like it. The Arriva green also looks rather less gaudy in this context as well (the colour scheme reminds me of Vick's vaporub)

I am puzzled as to how the choice of seat fabric determines whether or not passengers will spill their coffee.

It's about how well those stains show up, moquette hides them much better than flat cloth

Does anyone know why they haven’t started on refurbish the 2-car 158s? Will they receive the same treatment as the 3-car

They have, 158845 is currently undergoing a full refurbishment.

I believe so.

A lot of 2 cars have had the same level of refurbishment as the 3 car sets having been done at Loughborough. The first 158 to have the next stage is 158845 and is due out within the next week and will probably go straight to Neville Hill for familiarisation

Thanks for that, I'm looking forward to seeing what 158845 looks like when it's finished.

It seems Northern have been using the toilet-less 150/2 on west side diagrams without it being attached to a 153 or other DMU with a toilet.

Let’s hope the rest are done faster than the 8 months 158845 has been in the works or the franchise will end before they’ve done many 2 car sets!

The first one always takes longer, now they know what they’re playing with each one should get quicker. The deferment of further timetable changes to May 2019 coupled with the extra units that are due to arrive could work to Northerns advantage allowing multiple 158s to be done at the same time.

Will it though? Network Rail haven't confirmed the Bolton wiring will be ready by December and the 769s aren't being tested yet.

The tolietless train has indeed ran out on its own due to the 153 dying. It also made it to Buxton the other week too!

Well with the 5 156s, more 158s and 170s from Scotrail, the 2 150s still at GWR plus once the 195/331s come onto the timetable. Not sure how the withdrawal of pacers will affect it and whether the dates are set in stone of the different dates that they were going before the cut off point.

As long as it doesn't end up on something like a S&C run, the lack of a toilet is an inconvenience rather than a disaster. With CETs coming we may as well get used to units without (working) toilets!
