Just had an internal memo about 319450 saying it's 'not in our northern electrics configuration and may attract comments from passengers who should be assured it will be refurbished in due course'

Thus assuming it's still got its Thameslink interior!!

Passing one at Liverpool today and it still had the Thameslink first class, I did spot a notice up saying along the lines of what you have just said.

Someone's posted on wnxx that Northern have now decided to replace the seats on the 158s but the replacement seats will be a different type of seat to the ones they showed at their 'new seats roadshow'!

There was confirmation, of a rumour, given to some staff a little while back that following feedback from the 'roadshows' about options A, B and C, Northern are going with 'option D', but I don't think it's official news yet. If it works out that this is truth then the public have infact not been given the choice of seats promised by the roadshows, though by the time they come into service most of the public probably won't remember what seats were available to choose from.

Does Option 'D' look like an Ironing Board by any chance:lol::lol:

Nowhere near enough to a Pacer :(
Will we now see an internal seat cascade ATW style with the X 158 seating installed in the 150s, confining the Ashborns to the scrapheap? I hope so, likewise with the 156s that got bus style seating in a previous refit.

I doubt the 150s will be touched simply because if we finish up with DMUs surplus to requirements elsewhere they could get used to withdraw 150s before 2024.

What do you mean about bus style seating on the 156s? Both types of 156 Northern have feature high back seats with armrests and tables - which isn't very bus like. They will get 5 x 156s from Scotrail which have the original seating - maybe they should get the seats removed from the ex-Wessex 158s which will match those used on the ex-FNW 156s?

While I usually prefer softer seats to harder ones the seating on the ex-FNW 156s is preferable to the seating on the ex-ATN 156s. The latter seems to be designed for someone who is 5 ft 6 and if you're not 5 ft 6 it's uncomfortable to sit on.

Currently sat on of the first class seats on 319450 which is working tonight's 17:50 LIV-WBQ service.

Does anyone know if this is a new addition to Northern or is it temporary?

319450 is the first of the additional twelve units that Northern is to receive to enter service. 319448 has also arrived at Allerton Depot and should be the next in service.

The 'option D' thing for the refurb seats has some truth.

The public voted mainly for option A and options C which were the soft seat and the seat with more leg room. Both important factors. Northern took this back to the supplier who said they could do something in between as a trade off between the two.

Option B was a 387 style ironing board with a bit of extra padding in case anyone's forgotten.

As said very few people liked option B but many liked A and C so Northern as crazy as it sounds have combined those two options to please both groups.

It was also mentioned that while the 142s will not be being repainted into the new livery for obvious reasons they will be gaining some "special paint jobs" so make of that what you will.

Weren't options A and C from different manufacturers? One was Fainsa (as was option B), the other an Italian firm whose name escapes me.

Here are the seats taken from the event firm's facebook page who did the roadshow. I myself voted for A.

https://www.facebook.com/simplybett...640324736788/1287732367927582/?type=3&theater

EDIT:

Looking though the facebook pictures that I have linked though A and C seem to switch between each other never the same one on each photo! that's concerning for the results isn't it! B is always the Southern type
First image "A" has the wall attachment on the Right "C" has it on the Left, image 2 below "A" has the wall attachment on the Left and "C" has it on the Right

As 319450 is now working does that mean that 218 is now available for traffic?
And if not then why has it been put down the pecking order please as it has been at Allerton for such a long time now and was there long before 450 was on the scene.

1 in each of the 3 original liveries would be a nice touch. People might actively seek them out for their last couple of years instead of trying to avoid them.

319218 and 319219 have gone into storage, presumably ahead of their refurbishment before entering service. They were used as Christmas Tree units for the other 319s for a while, so that's why units arriving after the 319/2 pair are entering service before them.

Out of the "new" batch slowly starting to enter service, 319448 will be next.

Thank you for updating the list. I saw 319362 at Liverpool yesterday evening about to leave on a Wigan service.

Out of interest, why have some of the 319s have both a *&^ ? Are they not mutually exclusive states?

As 507021 has stated 319218/19 are in store and have been moved from Allerton to Long Marston.

One means that they've recieved the relevant PRM mods, whilst the other means it's either recieving them or in for full refurbishment or both, by the looks of it.

Forgive me if I've missed something buried in the thread (or indeed elsewhere), but why do a number of 170s now appear on 507021's list? I assume they are coming from Scotrail in the near/medium future?
