As no one has made a thread yet for off lease HST sets and coaching stock heading off lease over the next coming months it would be sensible to keep an eye out.
The following vehicles went to Ely before Christmas:A move which happened on the 29/1/19 was 8 Ex-GWR Mk3's from Laira to St Phillip's Marsh going onwards to Long Marston.
Coach numbers:
41176,40806,40105,46014,40106,40804,42308,41108
Tops showing 50007 working 5Z01 st phillips marsh to long marston this morning.went forward today as 5Z32? spm-long marston, presume it was some or all of this stock, anyone any idea what loco was on it?
The following vehicles went to Ely before Christmas:
17 Dec - 41128 42060 42061 42099 42197 42272 42507 42573 44020
19 Dec - 41004 41140 42069 42070 42118 42287 42289 42513 44023 44037
21 Dec - 41126 42216 42261 42344 42508 44030 46001 46010 46011
These are all off lease in the SCEC pool.
Three moves so far to Long Marston:
23 Jan - 41192 46018 40110 44000 42115 46016 46012 42382 42232
24 Jan - 41169 46008 42319 40802 40108 42321
30 Jan - 41176 40806 40105 46014 40106 40804 42308 41108
These vehicles are not (yet) off lease.
Just had R2 checked and they are all still showing as on lease to GWR.43017, 43053, 43069 & 43174 have all gone "off-lease" at the start of the week.
Who knows, as to my knowledge 43010 & 43002 were not supposed to have gone to Hull Trains. And the rate that GWR are doing exams for Power cars which have no home who bloody knows. Are there any plans in the pipeline to put these off lease coaches and power cars to use? It would be a shame to just store them so they cease up and rust when so many trains on our network are too short and overcrowded.....
We will have to wait and see.....Who knows, as to my knowledge 43010 & 43002 were not supposed to have gone to Hull Trains. And the rate that GWR are doing exams for Power cars which have no home who bloody knows.
I think XC will have some power cars but probably some LNER as they have new engines and are more similar to the current XC power cars.We will have to wait and see.....
Somehow I can see them back to work in the near future, some operator will snap them up.
43053+43069 have gone from Laira to Long Marston with the buffet express today.

There is more to it than just engines: cooler groups (GWR Voith, everyone else Brush) and electronics (GWR original, everyone else has the Brush upgrade package) for a start. The GWR powercars have the same engines as the LNER and XC powercars...

Yes, the EMT power cars have both Brush coolers and the electronics upgrades. In fact it was the Midland (in Midland Mainlines’s time) that pioneered both upgrades working with Brush.Out of interest, do the EMT powercars have the upgraded electrics, and brush cooler groups?
I believe that 43053 and 43056, actually have the upgraded electrics as well.
Mind they were the closest to Brush works if that made any differenceYes, the EMT power cars have both Brush coolers and the electronics upgrades. In fact it was the Midland (in Midland Mainlines’s time) that pioneered both upgrades working with Brush.
43053/056 do have the electronics upgrade from their time with MML.
Wonder what will happen to the LNER HST's when they start heading off lease. Straight for scrap perhaps?
It is feasible that XC may snap up a few LNER power cars, as XC only have ten power cars for 5 XC MK III rakes, especially since Arriva XC are actively considering using the XC HST's on a more frequent basis on the NE/SW services. It would be prudent to have a few extra power cars.Wonder what will happen to the LNER HST's when they start heading off lease. Straight for scrap perhaps?
And plus the LNER power cars are basically the same as they were all renumbered same as XC so there may be a similarity amongst drivers plus maintenance? It is feasible that XC may snap up a few LNER power cars, as XC only have ten power cars for 5 XC MK III rakes, especially since Arriva XC are actively considering using the XC HST's on a more frequent basis on the NE/SW services. Possibly. I recall that the "43/2" subclass was for powercars where the cab doors had openable hopper windows, not just MTU-engined and alloxed to Edinburgh Craigentinny. Hence why the GWR 43/0s, despite being MTU-engine after re-engineering, weren't re-numbered.And plus the LNER power cars are basically the same as they were all renumbered same as XC so there may be a similarity amongst drivers plus maintenance?
The 43/3 and 43/4's also had the openable letter box windows.Possibly. You are on the right track though - XC powercars have often subbed in when an East Coast/VTEC/LNER one's been faulty.
Do you really think renumbering would be on the basis of the type of car door?! There is absolutely zero logic to any of the HST renumbering: it is all totally inconsistent and badly thought out. There are many reasons why they ought to have been consistently renumbered over the years (engine type, TDM fitting, electronics upgrades etc etc), but cab door type isn’t one of them. This theory sounds rather like someone has looked at them after the event and come up with a theory that fitted, rather than any basis in reality.Possibly. Indeed, I thought it was a particularly unsound theory, but it's the closest visible difference between a 43/0 (including the /1s) and the 43/2s (including the /3s and /4s).Do you really think renumbering would be on the basis of the type of car door?!
