I know this isn't a list of moves but how evocative is this pic. It's 3 young lads sit on a parcel barrow on platform 10, now 4, at Newcastle Central Station in 1984, with 03112 in the distance, parked in what was affectionately known as the hole. The hole was removed, when Central was remodelled, Its now platform 5 and 6, the wall.remains but has an archway to through platform 7 and a few windows in it nowadays.
No doubt many of us, have done exactly this, pondering what's due next, flicking through a timetable to suss where to meet up with the next move. On this day, in 1984, there was balls all on Central bar 03112.
The picture is Paul Hazlewoods and he's been kind enough to give me permission to use it. I dont mean to hijack this thread, my apologies if it has. Just thought it was quite pertinent to the thread

I think 26024 might have had a short spell based at the Lancs.
In addition to the 2nd September move, I had it there in July 2006, July 2007 and November 2007.
I also had a couple of runs on it at the Worth Valley in June 2007.

I've not had it since 2007, so it's well overdue another entry in my haulage book!
That clarifies things for me. Scored it at the Bo'ness gala in April 2006, then it followed me south and was had again in July '06.

Well, I've had a look at what fabulous moves I've done on the 3rd of September through the years and the outcome is that there weren't any!
Nothing, nil, nada.

I've done a few units on commutes, but I've not got a single loco recorded for that date.
2018 is the same as all the previous years :(

47403 - that photo is magnificent.
It oozes atmosphere and takes me back to the days of sitting on a trolley (often a BRUTE), notebook in hand.

I’ve not had too much opportunity to add to this yet although I will have when I’ve got a bit more time.
Great thread though 55013.
Some of the moves posted so far are eye watering.
Oh and that photo was a beauty.

Happily, the 4th of September has been slightly more productive for me than the 3rd.

1999 saw a group of us doing a Pathfinder mini-tour, the "Hunslet Hoover".

The day began with a bit of 91 mileage (some things never change).

91018 Wakefield - Leeds
91018 Leeds - Wakefield
91014 Wakefield - Leeds
Unknown DMU Leeds - York

Then the main event.
60090 York - Hunslet East
50031/50044 Hunslet East - Selby Canal Jnc
60090 Selby Canal Jnc - York

Another unrecorded DMU back to Leeds, then 91031 Leeds - Wakefield.

I managed to miss my posting for OTDIH for 3rd September so let's whizz back in the Time Machine to 1982 when it was solid 50s all the way
50047 Waterloo - Gillingham
50008 Gillingham - Woking
50029 Woking - Yeovil Junction
50047 Yeovil Junction - Salisbury
50010 Salisbury - Sherborne
50040 Sherborne - Salisbury
50008 Salisbury - Sherborne
50029 Sherborne - Waterloo

And I am spoilt for choice for after work moves on the 4th September.
In 1978 it was a winning pair of mechanical rats in the shape of 25248+25257 from Nottingham to Long Eaton for a Class 120 DMU back to Nottingham.
Two years later, now London based it was
50043 Waterloo to Andover
50002 Andover to Waterloo
73134 (winner) Waterloo to Basingstoke
50016 Basingstoke to Waterloo

And now on to 5th September 1981
This should have been a simple move from Salisbury to Bristol following a week walking the South Coast Path. The Railway Gods had other ideas
33056 Salisbury - Bath Spa
31230+31259 Bath Spa - Salisbury
33033 Salisbury - Bristol TM
50012 Bristol TM - Gloucester
50012 Gloucester - Bristol TM
47217 Bristol TM - Bristol Parkway
followed by a desperate bus move to my parents' house

Some great stuff there, Keith.
My attention was particularly drawn to 50010.
This was one of thirteen members of the class that I never had; more than that I watched it depart on its last ever working.
A group of us were at New Street, doing some sort of Midland rover.
50010 backed onto a service bound for the South-West.
We all needed it and debated jumping on and going to Bristol.
Sadly, finances meant we decided against it.
Monarch left the station, got as far as Bromsgrove, failed and never worked again.
If there's one move I wish I could go back and do, that's it.

Here is 50010 backing onto the train, not a great photo but I'm glad I got it.

Here are the pick of my moves from the 5th of September through the ages.

5th September 1993, a series of workings in connection with the Worksop depot open day.
56100/56089 Sheffield - Worksop
58012/58005 Worksop - Worksop via West Burton power station loop.
37504/37202 Worksop - Sheffield
59102 Sheffield - Retford (High level)
59102 Retford (high level) - Sheffield

1998, a visit to the North Norfolk railway.
three round trips with 25057 & 27066.

Once again, I've not got anything loco-wise recorded for the 6th.

A mildly interesting day from my logs, 5th September 2015 was a Greater Manchester based shack scoring mission, I had my bike in hand and it involved a good few rides. I believe it was when there was some good prices for VTWC+ Connections tickets,

159010 Grateley - Waterloo
51575/51576 Waterloo - Euston
390010 Euston - Stockport (via Crewe, so 07:35 departure)
323225 Stockport - Cheadle Hulme (unit score)
323233 Cheadle Hulme - Poynton
Rode to Bramhall
323232 Bramhall - Stockport
150206 Stockport - Hazel Grove
Ride to Middlewood (IIRC I went the wrong way at some point)
150207 + 150142 Middlewood - Davenport
150269 Davenport - Woodsmoor (made a tight connection due to this service running late)
150203 Woodsmoor - Stockport
220031 Stockport - Piccadilly (I'm pretty sure I broke my journey as a time wasting move to see if anything required would pop up)
185103 Piccadilly - Oxford Road
150143 + 156472, Oxford Road - Trafford Park
Ride to Urmston
156460 Urmston - Irlam
156486 Irlam - Chassen Road
Fast ride to Flixton
142029 Flixton - Glazebrook
Ride to Irlam
156486 Irlam - Birchwood
150114 Birchwood - Humphrey Park, where I made a tight connection as IIRC the timetable at the time had the 2-hourly services calling at Trafford & Humphrey Parks crossing between the two stations
156426 + 156452 - Humprey Park - Irlam
156472+150143 Irlam - Oxford Road
185141 Oxford Road - Piccadilly
350408+350404 Piccadilly - Wigan North Western
150210 Wigan North Western - Bryn (I was expecting a 319, but I made the connection over to the opposite platform)
142061+150145 - Bryn - Wigan North Western
156429+156488 - Wigan North Western - Oxford Road
158866 + 158806 Oxford Road - Piccadilly
185104 Piccadilly - Stalybridge
Ride over the hill to Mossley, damaging my trousers in the process
156472+150143 Mossley - Greenfield
150118 Greenfield - Stalybridge (IIRC this service was a bit busy as it was full of drunks on the Ale-Trial)
185147 Stalybridge - Piccadilly
390127 Piccadilly - Watford Junction
377705 Watford Junction - Clapham Junction
159108 Clapham Junction - Andover
Stagecoach bus 20937 on a RRB from Andover to Grateley

The day afterwards was a much needed day of rest.

GBRf - "AC/DC Highway to Hampshire", a one way trip utilising what would otherwise have been the ECS off the previous day's staff outing.
45135 and I drove to Tamworth, then:
92028 Tamworth - Rugby with 92038 DIT
Then the second 92 was brought into play - we shot out of Rugby like a rocket!
92028/92038 Rugby - Willesden Up Relief Line
73207/73109 Willesden Up Relief Line - Clapham Junction
377328/377302 Clapham Junction - London Victoria
Underground to Baker Street, then a walk to Marylebone.
67025 Marylebone - Birmingham Moor Street

Whilst waiting at New Street I spotted one of my favourite TV presenters - Professor Alice Roberts alighting from a 323 :)

Went shopping in Bury with my ex, but sneaked in a swift return to Ramsbottom. Winner 50033 up, for 31162 + 40135 back.

Looking at "55013"s moves above, we were again on the same train, however he didn't do the craft shop next to Ramsbottom station! :) I did, because her birthday was 3 days later...

Still catching up
6th September 1978 was a swift after work move
Winning pair of 20178+20190 Nottingham to Long Eaton for the inevitable Class 120 DMU back to Nottingham.
Ditto for 7th September 1978
Winners of 20070+20199 Nottingham to Long Eaton. Guess what? A class 120 back to Nottingham!
8th September 1980 saw another after work move
50017 Waterloo to Basingstoke
50047 Basingstoke to Waterloo

Number 10 was one of the Hoovers that you missed. Pray may I ask what the other 12 were?

There were a few I could have had - my near miss with 50010 has been mentioned and the fact it was its last run makes it stand out, but there were other memorable misses.
A couple of mates and I drove to Eastleigh Works open day in 1988; we called in at Reading as my mate wanted to do some videoing (with a hired video camera that used VHS tapes and was huge) - he filmed both 50004 and 50034 on Oxford turns but as a group we didn't all have the funds for a couple of trips, so elected to remain together.
I cleared the class for sight, but several of these ones were only seen after withdrawal.

50s are my second favourite class, it's just unfortunate that the run-down of the class began six months before I got my first decent job.
Prior to November 1987 I was either unemployed or on a youth training scheme, neither of which gave me the money to get down South.

HST Darlington - Newcastle
47453 Newcastle - Leeds

Some moves just puzzle me - why on earth did I bail at Darlington for a HST?

The start of another all-liner, accompanied by my mate Carl.
It was a Sunday, so we knew Nuneaton drags should feature.

158808 Huddersfield - Manchester Piccadilly
86242 Piccadilly - Stafford
90003 Stafford - Wilmslow
86209 Wilmslow - Birmingham New Street
47726 New Street - Nuneaton
86261 Nuneaton - Euston
Th'underground.
1612 Waterloo - Clapham Junction
3914 Clapham Junction - Oxted
205009/205028 Oxted - Uckfield
205028/205009 Uckfield - Oxted
5842 East Croydon - Waterloo East

Showing our (particularly my) evolving tastes, not only did I record units but we specifically went for some DEMU thrash.
86209 was my last xc 86 - we'd seen it in the loco holding sidings at Piccadilly and worked out what it was likely to work, so made sure we covered it.

This was a trip to bag some track and a few things by the wayside in the process
43067+91105 Kings Cross - Doncaster
Here we caught up with the previous service and managed to switch across at Doncaster
43080+91109 Doncaster to Wakefield
Where it terminated so back on to
43067+91105 Wakefield to Leeds
142096+155343 Leeds - Rose Grove
142059 Rose Grove - Blackburn
142055 Blackburn - Manchester Victoria
142006 Manchester Victoria- Dean Lane
150223 Dean Lane - Manchester Victoria
155347 Manchester Victoria - Mytholmroyd
156444 Mytholmroyd - Manchester Victoria
150246 Manchester Victoria - Salford Crescent
150205+150218 Salford Crescent - Manchester Piccadilly
90018 Manchester Piccadilly to Euston
Not a bad day out with Copy pit, Blackburn - Bolton and Rochdale to Hall Royd Junction ticked off.
And for those that did not sample them, the 91 plus HST power car combinations were somewhat quick off the mark and rather speedy along the way.

Some mighty fine machines there - some of those strike me as the early refurbished ones such as 6, 13 & 47 which all ran in BR blue in refurbished mode. 11 & 14 were amongst some of the last to be dealt with under the refurb programme.

Oh, and you mention those industrial sized video cameras - they were HUGE! Not for weak shoulders ....

I think it's telling that the thirteen I never had include the first nine to be withdrawn.
The first one to go that was unrequired was 50039 on 04/06/89.
50045 was the last one of my requirements to get stopped, lasting until 11/12/90.
That one really bugged me as I was doing frequent moves on the Waterloo - Exeter route in 1990 and it never showed its face.

We were on a Boots Tokens day out so where shall we go? Why Kilmarnock of course! Direct route there, rather indirect coming back. They were sort of one day all line rovers except we flexed it a little......
87035 Euston - Carlisle
27054 Carlisle - Kilmarnock
26038 Kilmarnock -Carlisle
40013 Carlisle - Leeds
45120 Leeds - Manchester Victoria
Due to the peak absolutely staggering over the Pennines, we arrived in Manchester too late for the last Euston
47401 Manchester Victoria - Liverpool Lime Street

11th September 1983
We didn't fancy an overnight in Liverpool so made our exit on the "Joiner" - the reverse of the "Splitter"
47401 Liverpool Lime Street - Crewe via Halton Curve, Chester triangle
40034 Crewe - Stafford
86215 Stafford - Euston

Two winning locos and 40013 & 40034 became the last 40s that I ever scored (or ever will have the chance of scoring). Well I ended up with 123 of the venerable machines in the book so not too bad

Brilliant stuff.
At least I only need one of those 40s :)

My moves for the 11th of September:

1999.
After leaving the ELR we all went to our respective homes for food and a change of clothes before meeting up again and driving to Birmingham International for a Pathfinder tour.
We left International at 01.30!

86417 International - Preston
37372 Preston - Blackpool South
56103 Blackpool South - York
66118 York - Bishop Auckland
60072 Bishop Auckland - Newcastle via Eaglescliffe
09204 Newcastle - Newcastle via Gateshead
47345 Newcastle - York via Hartlepool
57006 York - Warrington Bank Quay
90150 Warrington Bank Quay - International

That was the only time I had the first withdrawn 90.

2001
Obviously, bigger things happened in the world that day, but I'm not going to dwell on them.

47806 Wakefield - Birmingham New Street
47828 New Street - Stoke
86214 Stoke - Stafford
86245 Stafford - Milton Keynes
90015 Milton Keynes - Euston
86247 Euston - Coventry
86261 Coventry - Milton Keynes
87028 Milton Keynes - Euston

11 September is another one where what I did was similar to "55013", with the two 37s and the two sheds being scored at the ELR in 2004.

40s - have had 21 so far, with 118 a possibility.

50s - 34 had, 021/029 to get.

Had 90050 in 1988 Manchester to Euston before they were "sectorized". I think the only other dud loco on the Newcastle tour mentioned above for me would have been 09204 (scored as 08717 on an Inverness shunt in 1985).
