Just wondering are there any parliamentary or unusual or little known services that run on the London Underground network?

The only ones that i can think of are.

00:49 Watford - Rickmansworth 00:58
05:12 Chesham - Watford 05:41
06:08 Rickmansworth - Watford 06:16

Are there any others as well?

I think there was a Circle line service coming from the Barking direction going to Edgware Road via Victoria early morning last year at least.

There was one a day from Kensington Olympia to Upminster. Sometime later on in the evening. I think it's still running since the Olympia shuttle was reduced

There used to be all kinds of interesting early morning services. My Grandad used to commute from Bayswater to Temple on the first train out of Bayswater. The first train from Bayswater used to terminate at South Kensington, before running past the station and reversing to become a Wimbledon service. He then had to get a District line train onwards to Temple.

Notably, all on the Sub Surface Lines network, a complex network in itself, and not the Tube lines, (almost entirely) independent and simpler lines. Lack of chords on the tube lines...

Trying to give a tube example rather than a sub surface, Is the 16:32 West Ruislip to Grange Hill the only train from West Ruislip to go via Roding Valley first on the loop?

05:31 Barking - (via Victoria) - Edgware Rd 06:34
06:25 Kensington Olympia - Dagenham East 07:28
06:45 Kensington Olympia - Dagenham East 07:49

Also in the working timetables are the times in bold passenger trains and the times not in bold ECS trains?

Thanks for the info and the list. That is brilliant. Much appreciated. I will try to take a ride on some of these at some point.

Also do you know are there any S7 or S8 stock workings that run between North of Baker Street and South of Aldgate or East of London Liverpool Street? And are there any S7 or S8 stock workings between Ealing Common and Rayners Lane?

I'd assume you're talking about passenger trains, but there's an interesting Sunday only empty train on the Northern, which comes out of Morden depot, runs to Archway siding, runs to Tooting Broadway siding, and then becomes a passenger train northbound. I'm told it's in case we don't use the points all week, to make sure they work...

The Central Line also has a rusty rail move on Sundays. Comes out of Woodford sidings, down to Marble Arch, terminates and then into the siding, out of service to Liverpool Street siding, out of there in service to North Acton to reverse and then carries on as normal. It is used to do more, like go into British Museum siding but that is now gone.

Also, there is a west to east mainline shunt booked at Leytonstone on Sunday mornings, which uses the westbound platform 1 to go eastbound up to Epping.

Interesting. Never heard of that one. Do you know what time(s) that service runs? Also what line is that train classified as?

I don't know times I'm afraid, but it ran as a full service under the Circle brand during some recent weekend engineering.

On the Jubilee line, there are quite a few trains in the evenings that terminate at Stanmore and run empty down to Neasden depot

On event days at Wembley, trains that are due to terminate at Wembley Park will empty at Willesden Green, run empty into the sidings at Wembley and then re-enter service on the Southbound platform

Aren't there a couple of rusty rail working on the Jubilee Line to Charing Cross each week? Obviously not in passenger service.

Don't think there's anything on the timetable, but there is a spare train during the day that gets sent down there when there's filming going on. It's use has to be organised with authorisation from the Service Manager.
When it's not being used for filming, the same train gets used to train new T/Ops on Charing Cross procedures and often the main line shunt at Stanmore

On Sunday mornings the first two Westbound Piccadilly line trains depart off the Eastbound platform at Kings + (having arrived and terminated in customer service from the west).

the Northern and Picadilly run very different stock on different signalling systems, there is no interworking between them via the Kings Cross Loop. The connections at both ends are "trailing" in the direction of the line, so it can only be used by shunting in the wrong direction.

The Northern uses the Kings Cross loop to reverse trains (Detrained at Euston platform 6, into Euston Loop and onwards to Kings Cross Loop, and back out to Euston NB city). Whilst this requires a slot from Earls Court signalling desk, and traction current to be on from the Picc, it's entirely at the Northern lines request and I've never known it to be refused. It's been increasingly used as a reversing point for late running trains vice Mornington since changes to the overlapping which allows a train to berth in Kings X NB play whilst a train goes into or out of the KX loop.

Thank you. Out of interest why are they run empty North of Baker Street? Are S7 not permitted in passenger service on this section?

Is Croxley Rickmansworth a parliamentary service or are there just to many trains to qualify, does a parliamentary service have to be run over that section as all stations are served buy other routes and connections available?

Im not sure. The definition of parliamentary trains seems to be quite complicating. Also im not sure if London Underground have to run parliamentary trains to keep lines open. It might just be a National Rail thing.

I am also interested if there are any booked Picadilly Line trains to and from Ealing Broadway and High Street Kensington? I know it has happened in the past?

No Pic trains are booked to run to High Street or Ealing Bdy; however this may happen if there is some kind of signaling issue or a wrong signal being lowered and accepted by mistake. Pic trains have ended up at both locations within the past two months.

Closures of LU services fall into a special category known as "London Closures" and more information can be found out here:

Ok. Thanks for the info. Does this ever happen on any other lines due to wrong signals etc? For example do Jubilee Line trains ever run to Harrow On The Hill? Or Metropolitan Line trains to Stanmore?

So am i correct that Watford will be closed when the new line to Watford Junction opens? Or will there still be some sort of infrequent trains (like the Croxley to Rickmansworth trains)?

District trains can occasionally be seen at Northfields, running directly from South Kensington to High St Kensington, Circle trains at Earl's Court etc.

Stabling of trains in the area will still be at Rickmansworth and Watford, so some early and late trains are expected to run to/from Rickmansworth/Watford Junction
