In my opinion 10 minutes is more than reasonable for most people to connect anywhere in Waverley.
I womder say if you had a connection from P18 to P7 and you missed it , your advance ticket would still be valid ?
I don't know, but I would have thought that most departures from P7 would come under the "any reasonable connection" part of your journey. Scotrail aren't all that big on reserved places on specific trains are they?
Ive heard that the cheapest advances are reserved train but no seat . P7 is a common one for XC to depart from
If it helps at all the “theoretical” May platforming plans are up on realtimetrains, P5 and P6 are shown in regular use all day.Yes, 8 is regularly used for long distance trains.. 11, the traditional InterCity platform, always seems to have Scotrail services. Whether things will change when 5&6 are operational, we'll see.

I didn't think platform 10 was long enough to come between 7 and 9, if you see what I mean. At least not yet - maybe it can be extended at some future date.True on the west side, but as 8, 9 and 10 are through platforms, then the east side sequence going south is 7, 10, 9, 8.
This is helpful, and is kept up to date:

The usable length of 11 is being shortened by the new 10-11 crossover, so it'll probably be used for ScotRail/TPE services now. I think it'll still be possible to use the full length but that would restrict capacity, so I don't imagine it'll happen very often.
Kings x HST the other day on 11 . Usually find myself over 8 and 9 for LNER though . Aberdeen services on 19 or 2 . Inverness bound LNER on 11 usually .
Had XC HST stop on 10 but its a shorter set . VTWC almost always hiding on 8 and 9 .
Yes it’s quite odd, but especially that triangular section on the right. The frangible deck sections (that are behind the buffers) could probably have had tarmac in them, in fact that’s what the plans posted here last year showed. (Link in post #12)Don’t want to come across as over critical but surely they could’ve done a better job than that! Mix up of surfaces looks untidy
looks so unfinished that i would suggest its temporary to give a safe surface to walk onDon’t want to come across as over critical but surely they could’ve done a better job than that! Mix up of surfaces looks untidy
That is exactly what RTT shows for the May timetable. Most (but not all) LNER services starting or terminating at Edinburgh are shown in P5/6, with a small minority using P8.I really hope these new Platforms will be used by LNER south bound services, 8 & 9 can be a right pain at times with luggage!
That's correct.Post on the Scot-Rail site states that P5 & 6 will be entered into operational use as of 04:45 tomorrow (Sunday 24/02).
Do you know if some LNER and XC services will begin using these platforms immediately from tomorrow or will they be lesser used until May?Post on the Scot-Rail site states that P5 & 6 will be entered into operational use as of 04:45 tomorrow (Sunday 24/02).
