18/05/2019 last day allocations ** believed correct at time of post - usual caveats **

W43002/43198
06.57 Plymouth - Paddington
10.45 Paddington - Swansea
14.29 Swansea - Paddington
18.30 Paddington - Taunton
21.32 Taunton - Exeter SD
ECS to Laira

43185/43009
06.45 Bristol - Swansea
09.29 Swansea - Paddington
13.30 Paddington - Bristol
16.00 Bristol - Paddington
18.22 Paddington - Hereford

A check for Paddington platforms on Real Time Trains would put W43002/43185 beside each other in p4 and p3 respectively.

Although of course this could be correct , didn’t think allocations happened until overnight ?

Plus there are 2 diagrams missing ??

I'm guessing this is deliberate to get the 'celebrity' powercars next to each other at Paddington

The other sets are 43093 + OC45 + 43188, and 43171 + OC38 + 43162

This is just what I found on another site that is just for 43002 & 43185....the other 2 sets are out as far as I know! (So 4 as planned)

Although the 18.30 is sold out are there still places on the other 3 HST's tomorrow evening? I was hoping to get on the Hereford service if there is space.

Only the 1830 is compulsory reservation, so the others will fill to bursting if it's necessary.

what do you mean? Only 3 Advance tickets unsold as certain booking sites can state? walk up fares should permit boarding as it's not been flagged as reservation compulsory AFAIK
tHERE ARE STILL 5 DISCOUNTED 1ST ADVANCE tickets left on the 18.15 to cheltenham, for example (sorry about the caps!)
Tho std class plus w/end 1st would be cheaper, free seats permitting.

Just been watching BTF film Inter City 125 from 1976, directed by Nick Nicholls and written by James Ritchie

These are the closing lines of commentary:

"The new trains, designed by railway engineers, and built in British factories, and the workshops of British Rail Engineering, prove once again that Britain is as capable as ever to meet a major engineering challenge, and... to succeed"

said against edits of 8 different sets filmed on the GW main line

well, they called it right!

It very much is an end-of-an-era type weekend this one.
For the mainline services out of Paddington - yes. But then again, there have been long swathes of the day where no Intercity 125's have been in sight at Paddington - with most services now in the hands of Class 800's.
Riding from Penzance to Paddington yesterday - even causal travellers noticed how many people were taking photographs of the train - but nothing that met the recent flying Scotsman levels. Maybe that's because the HST's are still running on LNER, Cross Country, East Midland and Scotrail, even GWR have retained a few short sets for Plymouth to Penzance and Taunton to Cardiff services. So they are not dead yet!

07:29 Exeter to Padd with 43172 leading departed on time

All coaches carrying a last day of operation on the great western railway window sticker - which I thought is a nice touch.

I'm told the 18:15 which I'm catching to Didcot Parkway will be busier than usual - someone on Twitter was told First Class is fully booked (something like that). Looks a good few thousand people will be at Paddington!

Update - window stickers (a limited amount) are for sale on the train for £2.50 donation to their charity.

10.45 to Swansea announced as being delayed due to a mechanical problem. As another IC125 set has been sat alongside ..not sure if it is a political 'mechanical failure' for a photo shoot

Be a better photo shoot later when 4 sets are next to each other at Padd so I doubt that’s the reason.
43002 has failed so proceeding on one power car.

Will it stay inservice all day remains to be seen !!!

As mentioned above, 1B25 (1045 Paddington to Swansea) started 6 late due to failure of 43002 on the rear leaving 43189 running only on the front. Fitter expected to join us at Reading.

Not neccessarily diagrams, but 43198 has lost its 'Oxfordshire 2007' nameplates, and instead has 'Driver Stan Martin' and 'Driver Brian Cooper' namplates

Haha, looks like the 1830 tonight might be cancelled, with all the enthusiasts on the IET <D
