Hi mate. I'm in the same boat as you. Passed assessment on the 29th and still waiting on an email for interview date.

Hi rfcboy, I just managed to get someone on the phone who checked my name and said I haven't been scheduled in for the interview yet, but to keep an eye on my emails for the invite. Said they obviously have a huge amount of interviews to get through and this is the reason for the delay.

If you passed the same date as me, I'm sure you are in the same boat.

Hi andersonian,

Thanks for the info. I guess it's back to checking my emails every 5 mins like a maniac lol.

It's good to hear the positive news from those passing through the assessment process so far. Well done - and best of luck!

I could be wrong but I think they're working through it in terms of depot applied for rather than chronological order.

From this string I'd got the impression here that applications were being dealt with in order of submission - hope so as I submitted on Sept 30. Can anyone shed any light on this ?

Also, is anyone aware whether Scotrail/Abellio operate an upper age cut-off for trainees?

Sounds like you and I have the same concerns, TobyZ. I submitted on 28th and was born in '67. Haven't heard a cheep.

How many females have been at the assessment days/interviews? Does anyone know? Thought my application form was solid. Still not heard anything. :(

My assessment was 11th nov. Out of around 15 applicants, 2 were female.

Short answer, LOADS!

Long answer......

When this recruitment drive started there were the usual rumblings about positive discrimination towards women and ethnic minorities. This all started from an unknown source saying Abellio were getting grief for a low number of women in the driver role across Scotrail. As the application process progressed this became a bigger rumour amongst depots and looks to be true going by the amount of internal women that have been scheduled for assessments/interviews versus their male counterparts. I know of several aggrieved applicants that have more relative experience, longer service, better sick record that submitted strong applications and got knocked back when some women that work alongside them have been progressed but have bad timekeeping or have been subject to disciplinary proceedings. As for external female applicants I know of 7 that have interview dates and only 4 males but I imagine I will be in the minority of people with those figures as most applicants are men so I expect to see more men getting the jobs purely based on the ratio of men to women that apply.
As stated by many different people, don't give up yet, there's time left yet going by the initial 4-6 week time period that was stated and nobody knows how the sift has been carried out as I know people that have interviews 3 weeks apart that were assessed on the same day and people that have heard of assessment dates 2weeks apart that submitted applications at the same time for the same depot.
Keep your eye out for that email, and best of luck.

Hi all, I applied for the Edinburgh/Bathgate/Tweedbank plus the Perth/Stirling etc ones about 3/4 weeks ago, has anyone else heard anything back from these ones? I didn't see the "successful applicants will be contacted 4-6 weeks" until now, I can't say I'm feeling terribly hopeful... :(
Hi, Im just wondering if you've heard anything back yet for the Edinbugh posting?
For you or anyone else?

Thanks
John

Hi folks, I applied for Glasgow and Ayr. I have been reading the comments re attending at the depot's. Has anyone done this? I was told at the end of the assessment not to go as people were doing all sorts of stupid stuff to try and speak to people. Where would you even go if you went to Glasgow? Confused as to how to research a depot.

I asked my dtm about this today. Apologies for the different info but it appears that due to the huge number of applications the number of people trying to visit depots has become unmanageable and it is interfering with depot ops, so the recruitment team have been asked to advise people not to do this.

She said to us not to visit anymore depots/stations because thats not what they are wanting anymore but tbh I would try and make every effort too - I have tried to go to a depot twice, 1st time was told nobody there to help me, 2nd time I got told they were too busy. I will try again on Monday

Jydo:
Probably not a good idea if you have been explicitly told not to especially as it seems you are getting in the way of things

Yeah, your right, I will let sleeping dogs lie on this one. On the two ocassions I tried they were very helpful and wanted to accomadate me but they just couldnt, think the 2nd time they were dealing with new uniforms for over 100 drivers so it wasnt just a case of not wanting to help, I have got enough info on my local depot anyway

Wouldnt let it put you off mentioning it at interview that you made an attempt but once you found out they were extremley busy you took a step back
At least you have showed initiative.

Dont get into too much detail about depots and stuff they won't ask you that, they just want to know about you, what you do, what your about, what life experience you've have etc. I'm currently a trainee and take this advice, its a fantastic job with a ****load to learn, don't fill your brain with useless info no-ones ever going to ask you just be yourself. Good luck boys!

I was asked questions about the depot I was applying for so I think if you go into the interview without researching this then your taking a chance

Fair point. I think everyone's interviews will be different experiences depending on who is conducting it. No two interviews will be the same and they will vary on each person. I guess it's up to the individual what they find out or don't find out.

The instruction we were given at the assessment day was research the role of a train driver, not the depot or inner workings. I would imagine the more Important info would be why you are a good candidate to be employed, not info on a depot they obviously know everything about. Just my take on it.
