What area did you apply for?

I seem to remember around Feb/March time people getting interviews/assesments for areas across the west but don't remember to many people saying about this way.

Did the advert not say at the time not to worry if you didn't hear for ages and that the recruitment would take all year. I didn't get round to applying for this one but I'm sure that's what the job advert said

It wasn’t a set area, it was basically Scotland recruitment drive and I had to include my nearest depots ect.

So received an email from Scotrail recruitment and have an assessment centre on for trainee driver post on 20th September. Was very pleasantly surprised by this.

For those who are worried, they are continuing to look at applications and expect to do so until the end of the year into early next year. They will reply to every application, so best just to be patient.

Yeah about 10/12 days.

Just wonder what the general consensus is for what to wear to assessment centre.

Info says that it's down to preference whether business or casual as it's important to feel comfortable.

Have spoken to couple people (on here and away from here) and bit of a mixed response.

Just conscious of importance of making good impression.

I was there mid July, out of 20 ppl there was a mix of casual, business dress and a couple in work uniform as they were going straight to their current work afterwards.

I passed. I was there at 10am and got the email at 4pm same day although they did say it can take a day or two to get the email out. And it just said ‘we will be in touch shortly to inform you of the next stage of the recruitment process’ I haven’t heard anything about a date for DMI not sure if they’re doing internal candidates first.

Good luck!

The assessment centre is not an interview, it's a test. Just wear whatever your feel comfy in.

If you pass assessments and then get an interview, suit up.

Sat my first assessments last week and passed so awaiting date for next stage. On my email it encourages me to go to local depots and ask questions etc. Should this be arranged or just turn up on my own accord? Thanks

Thank you all for your contributions to this thread. I have been following it closely and have read every single comment. It is truly inspiring to see so many successful stories.

I have always had a dream of becoming a train driver since I was a child, and now I feel that the time is right for me to pursue this career. I have familiarized myself with the process through the comments here, but I would like to confirm if there have been any recent changes by checking the official website.

  • Short-listed candidates will be invited to attend psychometric assessment. This could be on two separate occasions. You may be asked to attend these days at short notice. This assessment will be held in Glasgow.

  • The next stage is a competency-based interview, designed to find out more about you and assess your suitability to the role.

  • It's then on to a medical examination including drugs/alcohol screening. Successful candidates will then be asked to submit satisfactory reference, Disclosure Scotland and complete a six-month probation period.
Specifically, I would like to know if we still have DMI and MMI, or if it is now just one competency interview as described above, additionally, I have a question regarding the "2 lives rule." Is it two attempts allowed for each role, such as two attempts as a conductor and two attempts as a train driver?

I am interested in the role of a conductor and travel safe officer that was recently advertised, this will help with experience. However, I would like to clarify if failing the test for this position will count towards my two attempts for future driver opportunities.

Thank you in advance to anyone who can provide assistance.

I arranged this through a driver I knew at my local depot. I would try and get a contact email or number for the DTM’s at your depot and make an arrangement to attend, if you turn up without arrangement I would be prepared to be told they are busy but can make an appointment for you. It’s definitely beneficial speaking to them

Hopefully your interview went well. Can you remember what sort of questions they asked you?
If you read through all 146 pages of this thread most of the questions, if not similar ones can be found. Research the company, visit a depot and know that safety and adherence to rules are paramount
