I was looking for this thread and couldn't find it(!) but I see the mods have deleted lots of non-related posts....

So just a quick update on the fleet:

313.202/214/217 are long-term stopped and reported to be either at Lovers or Selhurst

313.206/211 are stored temporarily in Hove Yard

That leaves 14 units for 9 diagrams.

With 377/3's being transferred from Selhurst to Brighton now, I suspect the end is really in sight now
What replaces the /3s at Selhurst?

313212 and 213 on Seaford branch today, not sure if there are more but I saw those two. Only just found out that they don't run Portsmouth - Bognor Regis on a Sunday - oops.

313211 and 206 still in Hove sidings as of 3pm today.

I went on a 313 bash today. Travelled on six different units 313203/205/213/215/216/220. No problems to report. The only downside is that the heating isn't very good. I don't know why. I've been on plenty of warm 315/507/508s.

They all ran on time unless a late runner from London got in the way. I think they should run the Seaford trains two minutes later, in both directions. Every down train gets clobbered at Lewes waiting for the late train from Victoria. It would also even out the gaps between trains from Brighton to Lewes and vice versa.

One curiosity is that the door release tone is different on 313213 and 313216. They sound like an IET.

Another thing that struck me was the number of trainee drivers. Several trains with two people in the cab. Quite interesting listening to the instructor driver teaching the trainee.

There is a foot crossing near Bishopstone. Has there been a spate of incidents or near misses there? Every driver made a long blast on the horn lasting five or six seconds. Not heard anything like that before.

The remaining 707s will free up 465s to release 377/5s. The 375s aren't going anywhere.
707s ate being used on SE Metro routes, 377/5s are being used on Mainline services not likely to be frerd up anytimr soon, trmrmbrr SE is now effectively nationalised and run by the OLR so it is not a swap around inside Govia anymore.

I'm really sorry but much of this doesn't make sense.

I posted the quoted text in May, when it appeared that the change involving 377/5s was the plan and had been indicated by informed sources. The fact that SE Trains is run by OLR and GTR is run by Govia is not relevant to stock moves. The DfT can decide to move fleets as it sees fit, regardless of the operating company. As it is, there seems to be no move of 377/5s happening, with GTR seeking to eliminate 313s in another way.

Yes it's been standard practice for years due to misuse. There is also amplification equipment on the crossing.

Network Rail wanted to build a bridge. Seems like this is dead in the water now

Can anyone confirm what 313's are at Selhurst now please? Are they being cannibalised for spares for the remainder of the fleet?

Apologies, big fingers, small screen and bumpy ride. Just saying that 707s at SE are replacing withdrawn 465s not supplementing 377 and 375s.
They are indirectly replacing the 377s which go to Southern

Are you joking? They certainly don’t… They fail frequently, if you look at the 313 blog, you’ll see some documented faults. They are old now, not many trains survive until almost 50 but these have and now it’s time to retire them, the vast majority does not believe they are worth keeping just for trainspotters and sentimental value, at the end of the day these trains carry passengers and frequent commuters who’d just prefer train that works and that can get the from A to B without any problems really…

Agreed. I can't believe they even lived beyond their time on the old decrepid North London line, they were dead on their backsides even then, creaking, squeaking, spluttering their way up and down the line each day.

To Southerns credit, they polished a very bad turd but the guts were long gone by then.

My sincere condolences for those on the Coastway that have had to put up with these monstrosities for so long, even more a kick in the nether regions when they had the 377s cruelly ripped away from them years back.

Just give them another four years so they can make it to 50 :D Show them a little mercy:D

On another note, no-one seems to want the HSTs out, which are of the same age.

More seriously, I completely understand how you would feel, maybe they need to go.

That's because the HSTs are fun, sexy, fast. What can you say about the 313s? Slow, turgid, bumpy, creaky, ugly,
etc etc.

So yeah, that's the reason.

Electrics should last longer than diesels.

313s > HSTs

377421/387222 on today's 5B92 to selhurst, can't see any 313s at selhurst. I guess less units in service, less needing trips up there.

This is a fitting assessment of Southern's attitude to the Seaford Branch, to be fair. The assumption locally when Southern got them was so that if the football fans kicked off they weren't destroying a nice smart Electrostar but something a kicking wouldn't make much difference to. Obviously southern do use both 313s and 377s on services at Falmer on match days, but I could see why the leap was made.

Where are they all hidden - arrived in Brighton about an hour later and could only see two outside obviously on Lovers Walk (albeit I did get a Thameslink coming out as my train went in but don't think I missed much) - are the rest stored in the sheds?

I would say so yes. 6 car in mont 5, 313212 in mont 6, (beside Brighton platform 3), the rest are in the carriage roads / shed

5B06 from lovers walk to selhurst today was 377111 while VVAR 5B35 southbound was an 8/377
