Certainly the 700 allocations are known (listed on RailPlan2020 as either 700/0 or 700/1) - rest aren't quite as well known, but expect longer formations as there are more 377s to go around.

The Caterham and Tattenham Corner timetable at the same link has timing loads, and these include the number of units eg 2x4558, so I’m assuming this means the train is eight coaches.

I wonder why they've only made this information available on some routes :s I've seen posters on platforms, with reference to the current timetable, with trains lengths on them, in-relation to whether or not seats are available.

I expect to never be able to get a seat again (and even if I do standing might be preferable) despite only ever travelling in the "shoulder peak". But as many people have pointed out, having used the same train for 18 years and seeing direct routes and connections thrown away doesn't mean my pessimistic opinion will come true, and many more people can get a direct train to Gatwick once a year, so all will be well.

A lot of people are going to be very shocked, and I wouldn't be surprised if the first week is pretty chaotic for passengers even if the timetable works perfectly.

I had read that the Cat/Tatt to London Bridge would use 5 car units, and hence when coupled will run PUR-LBG as 10 car.

Yes, that is right if you look at the timetable - Caterham / Tattenham Corner to London Bridge is 10-377/6 - the trains which are 8-455 are the Caterham via Tulse Hill trains and the Coulsdon Town terminators.

Well if the Marshlink service is any more than 2 cars, I’ll eat a British Rail sandwich.

I've just seen claims from a Twitter user that both Charles Horton and the Southern Twitter account have claimed that the full (new) timetable may not operate in full until at least 11 June.

I understand that there may be problems will stock allocation in the first week, or so, but what could cause such a delay in operating a full service (if true, of course).

No "claims" - it's already all in the public domain on the RailPlan2020 website.

Nothing about Southern routes on there just TL. Another all day clash having to be fiddled out today having been spotted by others, fills you with confidence!!

It covers all the GTR routes, it's not just Thameslink. Route and timing changes are happening all over. I hope I'm wrong, but I suspect Monday and Tuesday will be full of reports of chaos even if the timetable itself works because most people don't realise it's happening and the publicity has been lacking.

Ah, my mistake. I've just had a look and it does say 'rolled out over several weeks in May and June'...I can't see a mention of the date 11 June though.

Unfortunately, I think the chaos will last longer than just Monday and Tuesday...GTR being GTR and everything!

11 June is the week that nearly all the timetables are in their future state, it's pretty much implied by the colour coded bands at the top of the typical page: Bedford to London and Brighton (Summary of direct services)

A passenger asked me today how well I think it will go.
My reply 'ask me on tuesday'.
There are issues, but I cannot discuss them here.

Mind, folks handing out goodies and info on the new timetable at Brighton today, with a Big Bunny. The info is out there, the posters are everywhere, and now very colourful. I'm told to make announcement after announcement. But TBh, when 70-80% of your punters are wearing headphones.....Of course there will be the ones, well I did not know, we know it, but we shall see, we shall see.

I see journeys from Haywards Heath to Portsmouth will take about 2 hour 5 minutes in future. Its currently about 1 hour 25 minutes.

I doubt many do the end to end journey though.

If they should be able to come up with something better then that begs the question why didn't they?

Of course if they could remove the 10 minutes minimum connection time at Gatwick Airport between Great Western Railway services and GTR run services, maybe that would provide additional journey opportunities.

I mean from memoey it's not as if GTR services have the 10 minute minimum connection time at Gatwick Airport. I believe it's 5 minutes.

The bunny in reference to Easter eggs that will become known in time. Haha.

For those that don't know, Easter eggs are hidden surprises which are only accessed by doing certain things that wouldn't necessarily be obvious. You can find them in computer games, amongst other things.

I hope the issues aren't insurmountable.

It was a bot of an anachronism though? Monday to Saturday the service isn't provided nowadays, normally being via Horsham. So having a randomly different Sunday service for the last few years since the last major coastway re-cast always seemed odd to me. Seems that the future Sunday times HHE to PMH won't be all that different to present weekday times.

To improve things further maybe they could run the Victoria to Southampton all week that way as well, it currently only runs Mon - Sat.

Marshlink has First Class fares again, from next week.

I wonder whether this is a mistake, or if GTR believe that curtailing the service to Eastbourne will alleviate the overcrowding problems that triggered the blanket declassification, several years ago.

Could be, after all the service from Ebn is following a fast, and the Ashford service is a stopper, so perhaps the guess is that most will take the fast, leaving the Ashford for the few who board at Pevensey and Cooden etc, and folks heading East of Hastings.

I’ve been told that declassification will remain, but will report back tomorrow. Assuming I survive the new “improved” 6 coach squash at AFK that is.

Bad feeling locally remains from commuters, not sure how many will be on the retimed Rye Shuttle tomorrow. Maybe that was the plan all along.

Chaos at East Croydon this morning. The 0738 to Victoria was 8 coaches (hopefully its 12 in the future)?

I was surprised by that one, too. Hopefully the earlier services are still 12-car.

    That's a huge shame. The 0734 was a 12 car along with the 0745.

Looks like the Redhill to Tonbridge line has lost all its through services from London - even at peak times. Is this correct?

No idea what the demand for commuting on this line is, but I'd have thought it would be significant enough to preserve through running to London. Or in actuality do these trains still divide at Redhill and the timetables aren't showing this properly?

This is intentional. The Tonbridge service is just a shuttle from Redhill now. (Reigate, Earlswood and Salfords passengers shouted loudest so to speak)
