For those interested, DGZ and DGY were two I saw today on the 39/40 routes. I do like the livery but then again I don't like the fares!

DGZ out again this morning, on a 40. Seems to be following me around!

Have to say I thought the engines would sound a bit quieter.

19159 was out on the 87 today while postcode lottery plastered 19162 was on service X87/X88

Went past 12074 on the west road and thought it looked very smart and quiet.

12062 was back in service yesterday after suffering a broken window just days in action !

They seem like there going to be nothing but trouble just like the old designlines ! Hybrids don't like Newcastle.

ADL have been on the case with the hybrids ! Apparently there recurring problems were that the generator at times wasnt charging the batterys which resulted in power loss & eventually cutting the power so we should see less problems in the comming weeks as these are still new machines after all there was always going to be problems like all modern technology !

Slatyford on the other hand is having better luck with there DD fleet ! With services 10/11 X87/X88 now allocated daily E400's of 3 per route , More will be allocated & X87/X88 will go fully DD once 19193/99 are finished at Walkergate as due to hybrid problems that transfer is delayed .

Few E400's have also been appearing on the 30/1/6 in Newcastle recently also but these are trials taken from the 62/3 allocation resulting in ALX 300's being stop gaps for them on the busy 60's

Teething problems are understandable, but its a shame that they are still occuring, given that (AIUI) these are mechanically identical to the batches already running in Manchester and Oxford?

No, they feature a slightly revised hybrid drive I believe.

Not sure if the components are different, but I do know the engine bay layout is different so that will cause some problems.

Don't be surprised to see one or two heading to Manchester in the autumn to train fitters on the new style, ahead of Manchester's hybrid in the new year.

The image of the bus extinguished back at the depot isn't too bad considering what it looked burning!

http://www.railforums.co.uk/attachment.php?attachmentid=4673&d=1301348783

Image was uploaded and from forum member stagecoachuk from the North West Fleet Changes feed.
... it could be salvaged from disposal, will have to wait and see.

do you know if 19151 is coming back or is it just going to be scrapped and replaced by a ex 39/40 bus?

19151 is away for repair and is currently back at ADL , It will end up back one day but Slatyford has 19157-19163 so it won't make much of a difference especially after 19193-19199 leave walkergate too.

E400H's due to different engine layouts have had problems with the generator not charging the batterys and resulting in power loss or the bus cutting out but ADL has been on the case so expect to see the standard E400 gradually phased out of the route once all problems have been adressed.

No problem guys ! E400's can be seen on the following routes 1,12,22,38,39,40,62,63,X87/X88

Slatyford
19141-19150
19152-19163

Walkergate
19193-19199 (Transfer to Slatyford after Hybrids are fully operational)
19200-19219
19379-19389
19430-19446
19670-19683
12061-12086

Majority of the other routes are ALX300 operated , 6/7/8 are worked by E200's while the 100 is ran by Branded E300's .

High floors are found on 15,32,33 :D

Just digressing a little, when I worked at the old Byker Depot it was always interesting to see the drivers and depot office staff always refer to these numbers by their roster names. i.e 1 was Cochrane, 12 was Milvain, 18 was Walker Circle, 22 was Wallsend, 39/40 was Brighton, 62.63 was Killie (Killingworth) and X63 was Killie express. Can't remember what the 38s were (Benton??).

Makes me feel quite nostalgic that does...:D

Anyway back on topic.

These are new buses aren't they? :D
I appreciate that new technology will have teething troubles, let's hope they settle down soon.

Its rare but you do see an ALX300 on routes like the 15/A 18 32/A , Those routes will be E200 ran by next year.

As for the Hybrids , you should start seeing more out now with the problems beggining to get sorted !

Sorry i meant 22067/8/9/70/1 :)

The ALX400's were bought for service 12 back in 2000 but were swapped with a batch of MANs from Manchester. Due to some of the places they used to travel through in Newcastle back then it resulted in them being heavily vandalised upstairs so they got rid of them .

11 Years on from then and with over 100 Double deckers back in the Newcastle fleet the only thing you'll see is some window etching on the odd bus which is easily fixed as they only etch the shatter protection plastic that's placed over the windows !

i mean whats the point in wrighting your nick name on a window

and i can remember ALX400's on the 39 with the old livery
who thinks it would be a good idea to do this to some off the E400's for a anniversary for the old tyne and wear transport ?

Yeah they used to work the 39, 12 & 12A but the vandals had it in for them when they travelled through some of Newcastles most nortorious areas for crime / anti social behaviour ! Nowhere near as bad now though.

It would be an idea but instead they would rather plaster our E400s with advertisments ! Especially 19162 that's just passed my house on the X87 which carrys a complete offside advert for the postcode lottery !
