I never seem to visit the pubs which are closest to my house.
When growing up in Wigan, the nearest commercial establishment of any type to home was a pub.
I never went in - originally because all the neighbours drank there, so they might remember I wasn't quite old enough to be there.
I left home at age 18 and whenever I went back to visit my family, I never bothered going for a drink at that pub - not by any conscious decision, just never got around to it. It's now an Indian restaurant, so maybe I should try it next time.
At university, the closest pub was a well-known haunt of rugby & rowing types.
I walked in once, decided it wasn't for me and left without buying a drink, never to return.
Winding forward to today, we have a pub just down the street, and again it's the closest commercial premises apart from a women's hairdresser.
My wife & I did have a meal in the dining room once 16 years ago (the first night we moved into the house, because we hadn't unpacked the crockery, pots & pans), which was "average", but not too bad. I've never been back since, even for a quick beer in the bar, despite often walking past that pub's door en-route to other boozers two, three or four times distant.
