I know this is off topic but it really is a quick question, and something I've never really known. Why have Southern region stations always had a much larger typeface on station name boards that other stations? Even the SWR signs seem to keep a much larger typeface, although it has become more commonplace

Further to yesterday’s post, here are some further pictures of the repainted Basingstoke Station. Still some areas to finish, and sadly no word from SWR as to when the awful toilets on 1 & 4 may ever get refurbished - you can still see traces of NSE on platform 1!

The doors appear to be mostly SWT Blue (which is a little odd!).

I still can’t decide if it feels a little bit SouthEastern or a little bit Greater Anglia / ONE. Either way, the overall consensus is that it feels rather bland and in some areas, not particularly well done.

Edited - answer now provided above, thanks SWT_Passenger.

That isn’t to do with different coloured bands I’m afraid as it only curves around part of the canopy support. The have however been there since the late SWT era.

As above, access. The columns (or some of them) also act as drain down pipes.

Unsure if it’s been previously covered, but I travelled up to London on one of the 444s 2 weeks ago and noticed that the bike space has been modified now to contain two tip up seats. I also see that bike spaces on the West of England services are, like GWR, now reservation compulsory.

I think the last couple of 444's got them in the refurbishment this would have been around October / November last year. All the rest got them retro-fitted at Northam.
It's part of an attempt to increase seating capacity to meet the franchise agreement.

Have any units actually been repainted recently all appears to have stopped again after finally appearing to be getting on with it

What's also interesting is that the 159s/ 158s where due to have their internal refurb this year but all has gone very quiet. Still no news on when they'll be refurbed or repainted.

Thanks to WVL14 for letting me know.

Hi Dan15812

Noticed that you have 444024 as next unit for painting - saw that in traffic service with 444044 - will it be swopped tonight ?

Have posted what services 444024 is on in the Urgent TOPS Request as per your request earlier today

Thanks

Hi 444045

Yes, 444024 is next on the list for painting due today in fact.

Also Got a reply from SWR regarding refurbishments. Grab poles and PIS won't be changed!

The onboard info screen changes were not due until Dec 2020 according to the franchise agreement. I wonder if they’re delayed, or actually abandoned, as they’re still in the online agreement.

But, put another way, I wouldn’t necessarily rely on a call centre reply.

Kingston and Sunbury stations have been repainted. In the case of Kingston, the ‘blue bands’ appear to have be painted rather than stuck on.
