It’s out to tender. The vinyled diesels look awful as you can see the join marks. The colours are dull and vinyl makes it duller.
When will diesel fleet refurb start? All 159/1 and all but 3 of the 158s remain in set livery. Interestingly the vinyled 159/0 still seem to have red seats
Although for the Desiro, it isn’t in house. Bournemouth won the contract from Siemens to repaint the units. any subcontracting would cost SWR more than its own internal costs which would be foolish and seeing off its supply of work sooner, plus the money is needed to justify the cost of the paint booth and the staff. As longer as Siemens are happy I don’t see the issue. It's just an unfortunate (in the circumstances) coincidence that the in-house team at Bournemouth won the contract to do the repaints not long before Covid struck. As I recall they could not get up to speed immediately because of the need to use 444s and 450s to cover for the 442s.
They have therefore never been painting at the rate that they should have been in order to complete the repaint programme in the planned three years.
Of course, with so much rolling stock currently lying around now it would be an ideal opportunity to really blast through the repaints, but capacity and Covid restrictions will prevent this I guess. Sub-contracting some of the work may be the answer. Otherwise there's going to be a Forth Bridge situation where the earlier repaints need doing again before the last ones have been completed!
Well, next month it'll be four years since First/MTR took over the franchise, and around 70% of the Desiro fleet is still in faded 17 year old paint, in the colours of the previous operator, with stuck-on patches over the old branding. As longer as Siemens are happy I don’t see the issue.
Part of the reason why it should’ve stayed with Stagecoach IMO - if it ain’t broke don’t fix it…Well, next month it'll be four years since First/MTR took over the franchise, and around 70% of the Desiro fleet is still in faded 17 year old paint, in the colours of the previous operator, with stuck-on patches over the old branding.
That may or may not matter to most passengers, but it doesn't suggest that the company is much interested in its public image. Or perhaps with taxpayers meeting all the bills and paying a profit margin, no-one at SWR really cares any more.
You put in your text that SWR don't care any more, the question is have they ever cared about SWR. The way that they wasted all the money on the 442's, and then scrapping them, they could have had the whole 444 and 450 fleet repainted.Well, next month it'll be four years since First/MTR took over the franchise, and around 70% of the Desiro fleet is still in faded 17 year old paint, in the colours of the previous operator, with stuck-on patches over the old branding.

I really thought we'd got past the mourning period for Stagecoach by now.Part of the reason why it should’ve stayed with Stagecoach IMO - if it ain’t broke don’t fix it…
Some of us are still there - especially when using SWR on a regular basis…I really thought we'd got past the mourning period for Stagecoach by now.
In any case SWT was pretty rubbish in its latter years. It's just unfortunate that what replaced it was even worse.

Personally I never really had a problem with them - but nothing lasts forever. Just wish the DfT had a crystal ball with things like the failed 442 project and the slow pace of the refurbishments to realise it was a poor choice reletting the franchise.
IMHO Plenty of the unrelivered trains are in perfectly acceptable condition. They are certainly more pleasing internally and externally than the SWR refurbs and as for those dreadful vinyl / fake leather seat coverings that have appeared in some units, oh dear.Well, next month it'll be four years since First/MTR took over the franchise, and around 70% of the Desiro fleet is still in faded 17 year old paint, in the colours of the previous operator, with stuck-on patches over the old branding.

Deadline was 02/07.Oddly, the page has disappeared already. Contractor found or tender released too early?

There were regular updates on the internal work, but they were all completed around the start of last year.Although there are regular updates on class 444 & 450 repaints, I wonder how many have been reupholstered. In Feb 2019 I rode a 450 still in SWT livery but reupholstered with SWR seating.
All the 444s and 450s have been completed inside for ages, IIRC it was a completely separate contract to the exterior work. Except for the couple of vinyled units, I don’t think the new livery painting started until nearly every interior was done. If you go back to posts #2711 etc, (about 5 Jan 2020) the very last 450/5 was being done at that time.Although there are regular updates on class 444 & 450 repaints, I wonder how many have been reupholstered. On an unrelated note, I have not seen any recent posts on refurb 158 or 159s with SWR.

158/159 interior contract hasn’t started, to the best of my knowledge, I think from earlier discussions, (a good few pages back in this thread), it was never due to start until some time in 2020, for completion last December. I expect it was put back indefinitely because of the pandemic.
Thank you both for letting me know. I did a reupholstered 450 in 2019 and have booked 444 rides for August. All 444/450 have SWR interiors.
