As this is the right forum, does anyone know whats going on with the 159/1s none have been refurbished yet even though they finished on the 159/0s ages ago. Also they seem to have applied the livery to the 159s yet not changed the interiors.
Welcome.

AIUI from earlier discussions the 158/159 interior and exterior work is being done by separate contracts, and although the interior stuff is obviously delayed, according to the 2017 franchise agreement it was originally only due to finish by Dec 2020 anyway.

Post #3095 in this thread records the latest tender being issued in June this year.

It’s all gone a bit quiet, I’m now wondering if there‘s any actual need to alter the seating capacities? The intended changes, eg altering first class to 2+2 layout, were fairly minimal…

I’m noticing a pattern here  they keep putting them on Winchester Bournemouth shuttles as soon as they’ve been repainted!

The C6 order was :
159/1
158
159/0

so the 159/1s were done but all were completed in SWT time. 8880-8885/8889 were also completed pre franchise change.

8886 was in works at franchise change.

8887/8888/8890 and the first few 159/0s have the SWT interior and an earlier iteration of SWR livery.

when the next scope of works happens I would expect the same order would apply (8889 obviously now excluded)

As far as I know, it was deemed that there was not sufficient 450's being repainted than 444's. Be in mind there is only 45x444's compared
to 127x450's - so when they stopped repainting the 444's 60% had been done compared to 7% of 450's - now upto 28% as of last weekend.

The plan is keep repainting the 450's at 2 at a time until the end of October then go back to 1x444 & 1x450 repaints at a time.
This of course could be subject to alteration.

Hope that clears up your question.

Don't really see the point of continuing repaints on any TOC when a rebrand is around the corner
If the ROSCO needs them painting for planned maintenance purposes, age related, then they‘ll get painted. Nobody knows if there’ll be a national livery plan yet.

GBR is at least three years away, then it'll doubtless take a while to settle on any new liveries because there will be more important things to be getting on with.

You would hope, but given the nature of the current cosplay cabinet I wouldn't be so sure. Even in the BR days, I don't think there was a unified single livery, so does having trains in various shades of blue and grey in various parts of the country really matter?

Does anyone know how long repainting the entire fleet in England would take? It couldn't be an overnight process and will take many years, even decades.

When I was passing through Waterloo the other day I was struck by the number of Desiros that appeared to have only recently been repainted (ie their fronts were clean). Has the repaint programme ramped up recently?

No it hasn't been ramped up, still 2 x 450 in the paint shed at any one time (450057/096 presently) at Bournemouth Depot.

I think that now 43 units have been repainted, it looks like more have been done and I've noticed some depots or stabling points
have been forming services with newly painted units together.

Hope this answers your question @Goldfish62 .

Yes, because every day they dither around having not let the contract, customers are still having to travel on unrefurbished stock.
You do know it wasn't SWR's contract to let directly, it isn't as simplistic as SWR have dithered.
Angel own the trains
Siemens are contracted to maintain the trains
SWR in the case of the repaints are a sub-contractor to Siemens
If any problems are found eg corrosion etc or changes to specification that all has to be agreed and holds up work.

Also, passengers don't care about the outside. The internal refurbishment was finished a long time ago. That's what passengers worry about.

Yes, I do know that. "They", in that case, was supposed to refer to the responsible group of organisations as a whole, and not to one specific company.

I think they very much do. If the train turns up with worn, grubby paintwork, that is a poor first impression. Granted, it's not a major factor, but if you disregard things because they aren't a major factor, you'll start gradually harming the larger picture.

Besides, the insides weren't finished on time either.

And your point is?
I dont recall a deadline or an arrangement between SWR and the passengers to refurbish the units. If SWT had retained the franchise, would the 450's been refurbed to this standard to start with?

Agree the 450's looked terrible but there are not many places where you can take 127, 80 meter long trains to be stripped down, repaired and repainted within the third rail network.

There was: they specifically stated a timescale in all the PR flannel at the start of the franchise. Completion was 12 months late on the stated timescale.

No, they’d have been refurbished to a higher standard. This is First, so low standards are what we should expect.
