Indeed, noticed this the other day, so fresh you could almost smell the paint.



The sooner the better for those two. The early vinyl Stripy livery is starting to look pretty awful on all 3 fleets, particularly on 4040 and the 158s. The advantages of painted liveries being easier to clean vs vinyl are showing themselves up again.

The 158s and 159s all look terrible currently, particularly the front ends. Have WorstGroup removed the buckets and mops from Salisbury depot?

They look a mess currently

All 159/1s retain SWT livery as do all but three 158s. A handful have the awful striped SWR livery with various differences such as First Class markings.

Unfortunately the diesel fleet will not be touched until the next bodywork exam. A real shame if you ask me.

They were hoping for DFT funding but nothing seemed to have materialized.

Do the refurbished 159s have any power sockets added?

Sadly no.

It would help the diesel's appearance if they were cleaned properly. The fronts are black with dirt on many units and on others the yellow bodyside stripe has vanished under dirt.

Next month (20th August) is the 5th anniversary of SWR takeover of franchise, so averaging just over 20 units per year to be repainted into SWR colours.

So if repaints continue at same average pace, will take another 3-4 years to complete the 444+450 fleet

Repaints didn't start until a good while after the franchise commenced though. The internal refurb was undertaken first.

There were also delays to the programme due to the 442 introduction running late.

I may be wrong, but I'm sure when the repaint programme was started it was stated that three units at once would be in the paintshop, but this has never been achieved. First there were the 442 delays, then Covid and now presumably due to the general stock shortage.

I wonder why they started with far greater emphasis on repainting the 444 fleet, and then when they got to about 60% completion, completely sidelined them and went onto focus on 450s. Not that I’m complaining, as I hate the blue livery and rather like the white.

Yes, I like SWR Grey more than Blue on the 450s without a doubt, but I do rather like the 444s in White, even if they are filthy.
