Not seen a thread specifically for gigs so thought I would start one as tonight I am off to see Within Temptation at the Academy in Birmingham.
Looking forward to it as not seen them live and they are by all accounts pretty damn splendid

I've heard it too and would liked to have gone. July was my busiest month with Judas Priest, High Voltage and Iron Maiden within 10 days of each other.

Only upcoming gig is Rammstein next year at the NEC LG Arena

You lucky fella! I'd love to be going to that, but I just can't afford to go to all the gigs I would like to, although I tend to avoid gigs at the Birmingham O2 at all costs anyway as it's an absolutely god awful venue in my opinion.

I much prefer the Wolverhampton Wulfrun and Civic Halls, where I saw Turisas last Friday: Good solid Viking metal! :D I may have got a bit drunk during the proceedings, though it seems that I'm getting too old to do "mosh pits" these days.

While still in the subject area of female fronted symphonic-ish metal bands, I only recently realised that Lacuna Coil are travelling about the country on tour at the moment as well, and that I missed them in Birmingham a couple of days ago (Might have been Saturday, come to think of it). :( I'm very surprised to see, and I know that my brother is too who did go to see them in Newcastle last night; that they're playing much smaller venues than you would expect from an internationally renowned metal band.

My next gig will be Show of Hands (Superb folk/roots trio (if you remember to include Miranda!) from Devon) at the end of the month; I'm taking the missus, who has a love of Show of Hands equal to mine, out for dinner and a show, making a bit of an event of it. :)

And then, a week before Christmas, I'll be at Leatherats' annual Christmas party in Banbury, which is starting to become something of a tradition and resulted in a lot of chaotic fun last year!

The Wolves Civic is a great venue. My first gig was there (Trivium in 2004) but I saw Priest there on the epitaph tour <D

+1 for the turisas cover of Rasputin too

Just out of interest, what makes it so bad compared to the previous venue, that was smaller, hotter and had terrible lines of site to the stage?

You jammy bugger; I've yet to see Priest, I can never afford the extortionate prices that tend to get charged for their tours, although I've never been as big a Priest fan as I am of many of the other classic metal bands like Maiden, Saxon and Sabbath.

The bar at the Wolves Civic serves some decent ales (bottled mind) as well, even if the price is rather steep. Turisas' cover of Rasputin is great fun. :D

I wonder if anyone on this forum has been able to pull together enough ching to afford to see the Steel Panther/Motley Crue/Def Leppard tour next month? That's sure to be one heck of an evening!

Here's hoping the rumours regarding Sabbath are true!

Not me (money is too tight) but I believe my brother is going

I think that all of that applies to the newer venue when compared to the old Dale End one: The new O2 seems to be a lot more enclosed; the balcony-esque area at the back of the main hall means that you can't get anything approaching a good view of the stage if you are at the back and the heat gets trapped in to a much greater extent than in the old Academy, as the ceiling in general appears to be a fair bit lower. I wasn't particularly keen on the Dale End Academy as a venue when it was open, but the new one just seems to be so much worse in my experience.

Although, my girlfriend was at the Skindred gig at the new O2 about a week ago, which was a massive stint with about five bands performing, and she says that it was fairly cool in there throughout the gig.

No current concerts planned so far, shall see what appears overal. But when/ if Maiden tour again will be going for sure.

The only "concert" that I have been to was held in my school hall, we had Scooch do a special gig for us! 8-)

    Bet your all jealous.

Hopefully seeing Lacuna Coil and Voodoo Six next week. Both in small tight venues. At least Lacuna Coil are at the Pheonix this time so might actually get to see them! (Knee High stage at the Lemon Grove means only the front row get a view)

I think it varies from gig to gig and very much the season. When Pendulum played last year a few people passed out from the heat, including their drummer.

The low ceiling is a bummer, I just much preferred the new to the old and that's from working in both :) (not any more though)

I wouldn't have minded to see the darkness (especially if they played the Christmas song!) but £25 is too much for them

As advertised Within Temptation were fantastic last night. Not sure if there are any tickets available for the 3 remaining gigs but I recommend you get to one if you can. Sharon Den Adel gave a masterclass last night. My mate who was with me who has seen over 1000 bands live reckons last night was in his top 10 all time.
They played the new album virtually in its entirety but played some older harder stuff too.
They crowd were well into it and gave the band a rapturous send off.
Splendid stuff marred only by a 66 breaking down at Hatton causing a 85 min delay to my train home grrrrrrr

The Yearly 'pilgrimage' to Plymouth to see The Quo is next month, will be the 50+ time (lost count of the actual total ages ago), and before that actually 'Livewire' AC/DC tribute with the 'ZZ Tops' (no prizes) the week before in Falmouth...ideal

Glad I read this thread - off to see Lacuna Coil in Brighton next week, travel coutesy of FCC and their recent lovely free ticket offer.

I'll be seeing Rammstein next year in a few places - including the 02 in Birmingham on my birthday, preceded by a curry in Hall Green at the best curry house I know - feel free to come along if you like.

    I can dream...

First times I saw them were best at Manchester Apollo and Brixton Academy.

Both quality! I went to see the Quo at Bridlington Spa last year, and the place was rocking (although I can't remember the name of the support group ). Livewire I've seen in both my locals, and they are pretty damned good.

On the subject of tribute bands, my recommendation is Toxic Twins (Aerosmith tribute). They sound just like Aerosmith ....

I saw The Strawbs last Friday night at the Queens Hall, Edinburgh. It wasn't very good - the sound system was poor, and I got the impression the band wanted to be somewhere else.
