Hello everyone,

I need some advise please. I have been offered a start date of early next year as a trainee driver with another TOC but now GTR have also asked me to book my interview with them. Im about to cancel my application with GTR because I dont want to waste their time and my time and somebody's slot but also I'm thinking if I'm successful with my interview, GTR might offer me a sooner start date. Please don't judge me I'm not greedy, I just thought I should ask experts here first before I cancel my application. If anyone here could advise me on how long GTR takes from DMI to actual start date that would be much appreciated. Many thanks!!

Do you really have to ask? It is quite a simple equation.

Do you want GTR or the original TOC?

There really is no harm in going to the interviews and the process with GTR if that is the ideal TOC for your needs.

Yes, it might be that it is someone else's slot, but only if and when you give it up!

DMI to start date is completely and utterly dependent upon available course dates.

Take the start date all day long.

Not much worse than waiting over a year for a call.

Don't create a problem you haven't got mate, take the start date offered.

I'd do the interview, see if you get offered it then make your decision. Nothing to lose and if its ages away just stick with the TOC that have given you a start date. You don't need to tell them! Unless that is the original TOC works far better than GTR, in which case bin off GTR.

Which GTR? If it is Southern then it will be pretty soon, they are struggling to fill their next 2 upcoming classes

It is in fact Southern. What a shame! I've already cancelled my application and I just received the email confirming the cancellation. I would have love to start sooner. Oh well, I think the one I stuck with is quite awesome anyway. Good luck everyone!

I am about to book my Southern DMI for some time in August, with a choice of Victoria or Norwood.

Would choosing either of these determine my depot? (Should I get the position!!)

Any help is appreciated.

Hi, did you pass the assesments with Southern also? I am having my assesment day this week and would like to know what the day entails. I was led to believe DMI was done on the same day if you pass everything

Hello, yes I have passed the assesments with Southern. Without wanting to sound like I'm passing the buck, reading the practice material they send will set you up nicely for the assesment day. Try and practice tests like Group Bourdon before you go, just to try and get as much preperation in as possible. But relax and you will do just fine!

I did not have my DMI on the same day and do not believe this is the case (I know what they send you says otherwise!)

Feel free t message me if you have any further questions.

I spoke to Trudy just after the re-org was announce, and asked about how it affected me. She said it doesn't, other than now I was down for the new depots too.

Hi, I noticed you mentioned the DMI is not likely to be on the same day as the assessment tests but how about the MMI as the email I received leads you to believe that you may/may not have that on the same day as the tests?

Can anyone advise how the GTR payscale works? I understand you start on 50% day one and this rises to 100% after 2 years, but what is the progression rate over this period?

Just trying to plan ahead, as it's somewhat of a paycut initially for me.

Have you just applied for the role or qualified?

To all the guys still in the talent pool hang tight you will be offered a place eventually.

I've accepted a place on the GN side and given a start date, over the moon is an understatement

I believe pay goes to full rate the day after you pass your final Driving test. That's the only 'step' there is.

Congrats WDS2015. Finally eh?!

Hitchin is being downsized so it may be worth just looking at what other depots you could get to as unfortunately last in will be first out.

Congrats! Interesting you've been given Hitchen if it's being downsized?

Still, positive news for those in the TP!

Spud,
My contract came through last Friday, my start date is now the 19th rather than 26th as initially told. Handing my notice in today.
Are you still the 26th Sept induction?
