Ipswich Buses do a £4.00 rover ticket valid from the first bus till the last bus of the day. also after 15.00 hrs and all weekend a family ticket 2 Adults and up to 3 children for £4.00 all day. also with a id card Children up to the age of 19 !! can purchase a £2.00 rover ticket again valid all day.

The best ticket they do in my opinion if you are only travelling one way is a transfer ticket for £2.00 valid for 1 hour from time of issue. you can travel across Ipswich for £2.00 instead of 2 single fares @ £1.80 each.

I've never seen anywhere with a more expensive day-travel-cost than Warwick/Leamington except London.
Do they exist?

£4.60... that's cheap! Take a trip a few miles west to First Wyvern land, the day ticket has been reduced down to £6.00 (from £6.50)

But that's not a fair comparison - That's for the entire Wyvern area which goes all the way to Birmingham at which point it's actually fairly cheap!
A like-for-like would be the Worcester city "FirstDay" ticket - that's only £3.60 - http://www.firstgroup.com/ukbus/worcestershire_herefordshire/tickets/worcester_city/firstday.php

Greater Hamburg 10.40 (euros) includes s-bahn, u-bahn, buses, harbour ferries and local heavy rail. Also it can be used for up to 5 adults. Rip off UK.

You can get an all-operator bus-only ticket for £5.40 for West Yorkshire (but you can't get to Skipton on that).

And as seems common in this thread, two adults (with three optional, not compulsory children) can have unlimited train and bus travel in WY for £11 off peak.

But when you consider those in the north of the County, that's their only option, and they only have one route to choose from since they sold off their Redditch and Kiddy ops!

Stagecoach Manchester IIRC was £4, not bad considering the area it serves and in comparison to some other tickets. System One offers an off-peak ticket valid across the whole of Greater Manchester for just £5.

Dales and District has to take the award for the worst value day ticket. Last time I used it, it was £9.50, I think it's gone up to a tenner now. It's not even as if they provide a comprehensive service!

Can I say however that it is a disgrace that TfL don't accept it on their services in Herts - a real slap in the face of integrated ticketing.

That is irritating - what tend to be the best services in terms of frequencies and hours of operation are excluded from the area ticket (though do accept plusbus).

Oh indeed - that's something of a favourite for either just me and the wife or one or both of us and the nephews (though the elder one needs to get his half fare pass sorted out before we can all use one together - last time we travelled he was an 11-year old adult).

The only annoying is the wife deciding she wants to go to Skipton too once we've got one.

Only the Waltham Cross/Theoablds Grove/Cheshunt Plusbus area – and more recently Potters Bar too. Elstree and Watford/Bushey don't include TfL. Why the inconsistency I do not know! It's very rare for TfL buses to accept any kind of non-local-authority non-TfL bus ticket, the two aforementioned Plusbus destinations being the only examples I'm aware of them doing so (and like I say, even Potters Bar used to exclude TfL).

York is £3.70 For First York only,
£4.50 for all operators within the City of York council
Yet if You buy a plus bus ticket (if you come into York on the train) it's only £3 and valid on all operators and a wider area than the all York.

First Bristol's Inner Zone is £4, which I think is excellent as it's a HUGE area! Even better for me as a student - just £2.80!!

Powys Rover Ticket costs £8 and is valid the whole of the T4 route from Newtown to Cardiff (confirmed with Stagecoach South Wales). Some single fares on this route cost more than £8 so I assume you have to ask for the Powys ticket

Stagecoach South Wales Explorer costs £7.30 and is valid on other Stagecoach services in southern England though I cannot locate a map of its boundaries.

I travelled from Caerphilly to Birmingham recently using just four buses for £13.30. Caerphilly to Pontypridd to Hereford on Stagecoach, then Hereford to Worcester to Birmingham on First with a £6 Wyvern Day Ticket. Bargain !

Wow, that's quite good. How long did it take though?

An Arriva Bucks Plus will get you the freedom of an area from Olney to Maidenhead for £5.70. I think that's pretty good. The MK day 'saver' is £4.20 - insanely high for a 1-mile return trip from Great Holm to MKC station, but good value for a return from Buckingham to Newport Pagnell. It's a question of scale.

Never knew that TfL buses had started taking some plusbus tickets!

Surprised TfL let them accept it, as said, they are very reluctant to let people use non-TfL tickets (i.e. the Explorer would be nice as well!)

We have a similar problem to that in London, really. Over the years TfL have been progressively shortening bus routes such that more journeys require a change, and therefore the payment of two bus fares. Make one return journey with a change each way, even if you only spend a few minutes on each bus, and you pay £4.40. Yet that same £4.40 could also get you all the way from one side of London to the other (and, in limited cases, beyond) if you so choose.

At the last mayoral election various candidates supported the idea of a a single Oyster bus fare being valid for multiple journeys within a specific time limit (e.g. one hour) which would have helped, but alas Boris Johnson wasn't interested, instead wasting bus passengers' money on nice but overpriced fancy buses…

Never knew that TfL buses had started taking some plusbus tickets!

Yep, they've been taking the Waltham Cross etc. Plusbus ticket for as long as I've been using it, though the Potters Bar one is a more recent addition (it was initially introduced with no TfL validity if I recall correctly). The more surprising thing, for me, is that I've never had a problem using the former Plusbus ticket on TfL buses; in fact they pay less attention to it than non-London buses. Unless it's simply a case of the TfL bus drivers accepting anything on orange stock.

Caerphilly to Hereford took me 4 hours including a 30 minute break in Pontypridd.

Hereford to Birmingham took just over 4 hours including a 60 minute break at Worcester.

With tight connections at Pontypridd and Worcester the whole journey can be done in about six and a half hours

...but all First buses in S and SE Scotland except Edinburgh (£3.50)...

That'll be to compete with Lothian's Dayticket which is also £3.50.
Though I'm not sure how many people use them, as First don't serve the majority of the city. I do very occasionally get someone on my bus trying to use one, but it's pretty rare.

Hurry up - 11-16 M-Cards are only free until 31st Dec, then cost £5. However, the first application for someone aged 11 or younger will continue to be free. If the child has a passport handy then http://www.wymetro.com else a travel centre.

You're right! I hadn't realised this: Kexby, Rufforth and Sutton on the Forest are on All York but not PlusBus, Stamford Bridge is PlusBus but not All York. Etc

PlusBus Map

All York Map

Then there's that weird tail that covers Bubwith and Holme upon Spalding Moor on plusbus.

The Medway Towns might rival Stirling for worst value day ticket. Arriva divides Medway into two zones, a Medway zone which covers the whole borough (and actually slightly beyond) and an Inner zone which is approximately the area within two miles of Chatham bus station.

A day ticket for the Inner zone is £4.50. All the major supermarkets are outside the Inner zone, so to go to those you'd need a Medway zone day ticket at £5.90.

One of the major employment areas in Medway is the Medway City Estate, built on brownfield land directly across the river from Chatham town centre. It's less than a mile as the crow flies, but about three by road. (There was supposed to be a footbridge, but it was never built.) Arriva don't go there, only Nu-Venture, and the two companies don't accept each other's tickets - so to go there, you'd need their day ticket too at a cost of £3.50.

All of which means that in some parts of the Medway Towns, a journey to and from work of just over three miles in each direction would cost £9.40 per day. (£35 for seven days, £122 for four weeks, £1,352 for one year.)

PlusBus to the rescue, though. Both Arriva and NuVenture accept it, and - over one day, seven days, four weeks, or one year - it is cheaper to buy a rail ticket from Higham to Strood with PlusBus and throw away the train part than it is to buy the relevant bus passes!

Are they actually TfL services? The only reason I ask is that some of the services in the Potters Bar area, for example, are operated by London-based bus firms, using red buses, as commercial services ie without TfL support (at least outside the London area).

Yes – I've not tried it there, but most of TfL's bus routes in Potters Bar (298, 313, 626) apparently now allow Plusbus. The only exceptions are the school routes 692 and 699 as they're run by London General who aren't included in the scheme.

Either way, the longer-standing acceptance of Plusbus tickets on TfL buses in the Waltham Cross area has been tested several times by me and (surprisingly) I haven't yet experienced any problems.

A Firstday ticket for Stirling cost £5.60.

In 2002, I lived near Stirling, and had just started going out with my (now) fiancée who lived near Edinburgh.

Back then, First did an excellent-value ticket - for £4.50 I could catch a bus into Stirling, then an express coach to Edinburgh, then a bus out to her place in Midlothian - then all the way back again. If I was out the night before, I'd get away with buying one on a night-bus - as it was after midnight it was still valid the next day.

At the same time, their single fares were very steep - I can't remember details but remember that a 20 minute journey was about double the dearest single in Edinburgh.

Lothian Buses' tickets are excellent value, the only thing I'd wish for is some kind of oyster-like capping system so you didn't have to decide in advance whether you were likely to use more than two buses that day or not.
