Normally not until early hours of the day itself. There are some exceptions, for example, the Highland Chieftain returning south, as there is only one possible set, the one that went down to Inverness the previous night.

Unfortunately I didn't make it. Realised I would not get to Reading in time for the 1834 to GTW, and the next opportunity would have been the 2134 getting me back to RDG at 0039 - far too late for me
