Two rakes now on the ‘normal’ side of Longsight, both minus 68s.

Do freight trains still have real handbrakes?
North Wales?I put the two rakes in Longsight. Been told that the depot is now full and they cannot accept anymore rakes so should be interesting to see where the next lot go as they are waiting at Portbury!
Their are loads of terms used on the railway which are outdated, there was a thread about this a couple of years age, I can't find it though.Sorry for being thick / pedantic, but isn't a 'handbrake' by definition something that is applied by hand - ie manually as opposed to automatically?
York and ScarboroughI did wonder how Alstom Longsight Traincare Depot was going to cope with all these Mk5 sets after taking on more Class 390 work off Oxley and Edge Hill.
They have quite a few Northern DMUs on for fuel and stabling. They have Northern 323s with some usually getting stabled in the Up sidings and they have the Cross Country 220/221s.
I believe when in service it's 3 x Mk5a sets to be stabled at Longsight each night usually in the Up sidings.
I presume fuelling of Class 68s whilst still attached to the Mk5 sets like when they had HSTs on shed unless the 68 needs a service/exam.
Does anyone know (once in service proper) at what locations the other Mk5a sets will be stabled before commencing there intended diagrams for the day?
York and Scarborough
I think it will be more than 3 stabled at Longsight as all the the departures from the west side of the Pennines come off Longsight ECS
There are some roads in longsight that have been totally rebuilt for TPE trains for servicing. Surely they can be used?
Does anyone know what the procedure is when a train hits something/someone for the guard checking that the driver is ok? It occurred to me that this would be harder when the Class 68 is pulling the Mk5s as there is no way between the coaches and the loco.
I remember a few years ago on a train that hit someone the guard very quickly made sure the driver was ok and I assume would be able to secure the train if the driver couldn’t. Is this the case and if so how would it work for these trains? Is the guard allowed to alight the train?
Found out today that the 3 roads in the Up sidings for TPE Mk5a sets has not yet been passed for use, so not yet available to stable trains.
2 of the "X" shed roads have Mk5s the other two could fit sets but are for Northern DMUs, so no room at the Inn!! As has been said.

Can someone explain to this dope what I am looking for? Ha ha.Yes the guard can exit the train in the cess side and all trained Mk5A guards will have keys for the locomotive doors.
In fact the airport guards already have them as they are trained on class 68 emergency procedures.

How is this requirement for a guard to be able to secure the train circumvented in DOO?
Sorry I meant for other classes of train, given the lengths gone to with these trains to have special training for guards how can other trains have no guards at all?It will only be DOO on empty coaching stock.
