Thanks! Isn't it quick compared to some companies? Not that I'm complaining! I can order a pint in Welsh but I don't think much else!

Looking at this forum it seems to vary greatly between TOC in terms of process length, with some TOC's taking a lot of candidates through a particular stage and then taking a few months before progressing to the next. Of course it will depend on the numbers going through but if a company is looking to fill one course with three stages of assessment (tel int, face to face int and assessment) if the Recruitment team and Driver Managers work efficiently you should only be looking at around 8 weeks to get through all of the process including medicals. If candidates are successful but there aren't enough places available on a course they could of course be kept on hold which would mean a wait for a start date until a vacancy/course becomes available.

Thanks! One last question; the posts at Chester and Machynlleth were posted at the same time, now it seems the Chester one is now internal only. If both posts were up at the same time, do you think Chester would get a lot more applicants because it's bigger and no-one knows where Machynlleth is?

Chester reached the quota of external applicants pretty quickly which is why it is now closed to external applicants. As a rule generally vacancies at Chester will receive more applications than Machynlleth. However recruitment for both depots will be extremely competitive!

Atw's HR team are one of the best you'll find on the railway - they're very good at getting things processed quickly and looking after people through the process.

Best paid jobs around !achynlleth by a long shot never any problem with getting applicants.

Much fewer internal applicants though. ~25 conductors and a handful of station staff / fitters at Mach, plus about 2 stewards at aberystwyth. Chester area has much more potential internal applicants: ~55 conductors, ~20 stewards, countless station and revenue staff both there and in North Wales, ~40 conductors nearby in crewe, abs usually staff as far away as Shrewsbury will apply. Obviously only a small percentage will actually apply, but the pool of potential internal applicants is much bigger at Chester.

Internal includes staff from Arriva UK that includes a lot of people, not only ATW staff

Nothing here either. First time applying but I'm not too bothered by the silence, I know there's going to be a wait.

It looks like I'm through to the phone interviews; no email yet, but the status of my application changed this morning from 'Shortlisting' to 'Assessment'. Await confirmation I suppose.

I applied last year for the role of trainee driver , am currently awaiting my medical before commencing training in Cardiff . Red2005 is 100% correct with the sequence of events in the recruitment process . When it comes to the phone interview, interview and then the assessment days, the recruitment /HR team really make you feel at ease and are very friendly, so for those of you whom are successful at initial application stage, please don't put additional pressure upon yourself by expecting an interrogation at the next stages.

Cheers for that, red2005. What does the HR interview entail? Is that just a matter of going over the paperwork?

you're welcome! :) oh god no mate! you have still gotta be very switched on!......you will get a piece of paper with questions on asking you to think of a time when you may have done this or that etc which you write your answers on and hand in at the start of the day then when you get to the end of the day they will ask you questions based on the answers you have given.

some people say you are pretty much on the home straight at this stage mate but nevertheless my advice to you is you still need to have pretty good examples to use for the questions and make sure you talk about what YOU! did within those examples........for example if one of the questions is something like........erm.........can you give an occasion when you have worked as part of a team?.........make sure you list what the task was granted but don't waste to much time on that!....they want to hear about how YOU! performed within that team.

so many people come unstuck by going off on tangents etc.........keep the examples straight forward and try to give as much detail as possible so they don't have to probe to much and you will be fine buddy!

it sounds daunting but it really isn't that bad mate just enjoy it!:D

I got a rejection email after it appeared I'd got through shortlisting on the website. Cheers for the info though, sounds a bit like a mini MMI; I'll keep it in mind of I have another go with ATW. Ta!

no you sit a phone interview, a managers interview then one with HR at the end of the assessment day.......from what i gather with the exception of the phone interview which some companies have only recently brought in it's always been the norm to have the other 2 interviews but sometimes in a different order.

Thanks for clarifying you made it sound like two MMIs
