Scunthorpe to Lincoln via Sheffield

And does the the line in Ecuador from Quito to Guayaquil qualify? At Nariz del Diablo it zigzags down a cliff face. (And from memory it has 180 degree bends).

Starting at Cockfosters, westbound Piccadilly line trains initially go east

Both Windsor stations .
Windsor and Eton Central starts in westerly direction.
Windsor Riverside starts in a northerly direction.

Anything out of Blackpool North - route is north-east to Poulton-le-Fylde, then almost due south to Weeton before turning eastwards to Kirkham.

You'd think someone could have built a station actually in the centre of the town and a more direct route. It could be called something like Blackpool Central.

No, daft idea that.

Birmingham-Cambridge spends most of its time going in the wrong direction.

HS1 to Paris starts off by heading north out of St Pancras.

WCML out of Euston heads south west breifly around Willesden.

West Anglia Main Line to Cambridge is pretty indirect in a few places, particularly the meansering route between Liverpool Street and Tottenham Hale.

Would certain services through Westbury & Exeter St Davids qualify? The Devon Metro services through from Exmouth to Barnstaple do quite a turn in direction down the bank from Central to St Davids, then curve north westwards at Cowley Bridge again.

HS1 upon leaving St. Pancras.

Newcastle has the high level bridge meaning you can leave in either direction to go South (plus the option of going round the Durham Coast line).

Birmingham you can head west and go round the Camphill line to end up going northeast.

I guess you could head east out of Edinburgh and go round the South Sub to head east, though I think that's ECS and freight only.

Back in the days of LHCS some Birmingham New Street to Liverpool Lime Street services would depart heading vaguely North East before looping around through Bescot. Even today I guess the services to Euston start off heading slightly towards the North East until turning South around Stetchford.

Ffestiniog Railway at Dduallt.

Reverse curves near Tan-y-Bwlch? And on the WHR near Beddgelert? These of course are dictated by the need to gain height by following the contours..

Marylebone to Stratford on Avon, Stourbridge, Kidderminster and now Oxford all finish up heading south after going north from London and again at Princes Risborough. If the latter service gets extended along the Cowley branch it will finish heading north at Oxford Business Park. A 360 degree spiral!

The line around Ronda in Spain approaches from the south-west but then heads north, south, west and east to reach the station in town.

Norwich to Sheringham trains. They go south east and then east, before branching off the Yarmouth/Lowestoft line heading north, albeit north east initially.

Also, the few Nottingham to Norwich trains that run via Loughborough and the Oakham line. Back in 1993 I remember most of them going that way.

The new(ish) Blackburn-Manchester Victoria services via Todmorden have got to be a big contender. It goes completely the wrong direction until Todmorden.

I suppose you could add Leeds trains leaving Lancaster. They head north up the WCML before branching off at Carnforth.

Finally Bristol TM-Avonmouth/Severn Beach services leave TM to the east first.

Willingdon Junction - Eastbourne usually takes you in the wrong direction once on each journey (unless you're travelling to/from Eastbourne).

Talking about the F&WHR, on leaving Dinas, facing south, swing north east towards Tryfan Junction and Waunfawr before heading south east towards Plas-y-Nant and Rhyd Ddu. If you are doing "The Snowdonian" then you could include Pont Croesor via Porthmadog to Minffordd

St denys - for a portion of the line platforms 3 and 4 face north but the line has a sharp corner, this meaning it ends up south partially.

Isn't this similar to Clapham towards shepherd's bush? North bound faces north east but line goes west north west pretty much.

Stations on the Sutton pop could be on here as St albans services do use the southbound.
