I decided to make the Northern line (after I decied to make a Tube-route in the first place) for two reasons:

First reason is the simulator BVE. It has serveral London Underground routes. The Northernline is the one best build and I have used it most.

Second reason is eBay.co.uk. I searched it, just to see if there was anything interesting. I found a destination blind from a 1973 stock tube train (it's from train number 1198, that's a 1973-stock train isn't it?), which can still be operated by hand and has Northern Line destinations on it. When the route is finished, I can scroll the destination blind (I will place it close to my computer) to the correct destination, and then drive the route in MSTS.

Currently, my MSTS route is only tracks and tunnels. I'll place the stations later. At the location of each station, I leave 110 meters of track open, where the station itself will be placed later. Only the southbound London Bridge station has been placed.
I am currently working my way north from London Bridge.

It will take some time, As I can only work on it about an hour per evening. I just do not have more time.

MSTS has serval possible resolution settings. Go to the main screen, choose "options" in the left down corner of the screen, then "display" on the top of the screen. There you can select the prefered resolution. Then just click "save and exit".

Something has gone wrong. Today I extended the tracks and tunnels to Euston. But after that I could not open the route in the activity editor anymore; the program crashed. When trying in MSTS itself; same result. Only in the route editor the route can still be opened.
I already tried "rebuild track database", without effect.

If I have not found a solution by sunday (I will be away for the next two days), I will start the route from scratch again. The objects can be saved, the route itself maybey not. Lukely I have all sunday to work on it.
I still want to make this route, and when this problem is solved, I will make a backup at least every 30 minutes of work!

i hope you manage to find a solution, as soon as i can get 3dcanvas to work i'm going to start trying to make a 1995 stock for your northern line route. There's no promises though because the only 3d design i've ever done is for counter strike source on hammer editor.

AI-trains only appear when running an "activity" in MSTS.

If you want to create AI-trains yourself, perhaps this website will help you: http://www.drammensbanen.com/tutorial_1.htm

----------back on topic--------------------

I did not manage to find a sloution for the faillure in MSTS, so I decided to start over.
In the last five hours (I started at 9pm, it's now 2am), I recreated the southbound tunnel between the crossover near Euston to London Bridge.
This time I have made a backup every hour.
Hopefully, I can recreate the northbound tunnel tomorrow, and be back where I was a few days ago.

--- old post above --- --- new post below ---
14.34h

The damage has been restored. Both northbound and southbound tunnels are now complete between Euston and London Bridge (exept for stations and signalling).
I will now continue extending the line towards Camden and Kennington.

If it shows Northern destinations it is unlikely to be from a 73ts, as these have only ever worked the Piccadilly. If you mean 72ts, however, these did work on the Northern.

is it possible to make train simulator routes using gmax trainsim gamepack

You can only make routes in the MSTS Route-editor (after you have used the Route Geometry extractor). There are tutorials enough on the internet.

Thanks for the information. Because I only have a trainnumber, I had to guess the exact traintype. I have searched, but there does not seem to be a list online linking train types to train numbers.

hi all,
I was wondering if there was any software for route building included in train simulator.
I am planning to make london underground routes.

Please read the answers before you add new questions!

And could we keep on topic? For other issues, please start a new, separate, topic.

So, now back on topic; tube routes in MSTS.

Today I have build Bank station and added it to the route. I have uploaded a small movie to Youtube; a ride from Bank to London Bridge.
After London Bridge, you see the tube tunnel end. After this, the track continues to Kennington, but not yet in tunnels.

This is the Youtube adres: http://youtube.com/watch?v=21_LFEdYW8c
I hope the link works, as this is my first ever uploaded video.
I just uploaded it, so it may take some time before it is available.

Hve you added the sign for DLR trains at Bank?

No, I have not added a DLR sign. After seeing your question I just watched the drivers-eye view DVD of the Northernline, but I did not see it.
Do you have a picture of it? Perhaps I can add it.

Current status of the route:

Euston - Kennington

Tracks: 98%
Tunnels: 90%
Stations build: London Bridge, Bank, Old Street & Kings Cross.

The first downloadable version wil probably/hopefully contain Kennington - Hampstead via Bank.

I'll definately download it. The tube is excellent. Are you doing the entire northern line?

My aim is to begin with Kennington - Hampstead via Bank.
If it is a succes, I think I'll continue with the Charing Cross branch.

I make absolutely no promisses, but this is what I am thinking of right now:
1st edition: Kennington - Hampstead via Bank.
2nd edition: South Wimbledon - Hampstead/Archway via Bank and Charing Cross.
3rd edition: adding first stations on the surface part of the line (directions Morden, Edgeware, High Barnet).
But it could be that I never reach the 2nd edition; only time will tell ;)

By the way; I just built and added Borough station to the line.

if you do give up can i have a go with it?
Then I'd be able to see how it all works

I have (at this moment) no intention to give up. But if I ever do give up before at least one downloadable version is finished, I will think about it.

Latest addition to the route; I just added the tracks until Camden Town.
It took a very long time, but now this construction is also included in the route:

I should mention here where I got this image (copyright?), but I just can't remember.

A new status update for the route:

I have made serveral extensions to the route.
On the north side, tracks now extent to Hampstead, and on the south side, the tracks extend to Clapham South.
Also the tracks for the Charing Cross branch have been added.
Here is an overview:

Clampham South - Kennington:
Tracks: 100%
Tunnels: 0%
Stations build: Kennington

Kennington - Camden Town via Bank:
Tracks: 100%
Tunnels: 100%
Stations built: Kennington, Borough, London Bridge, Bank, Old Street, City Road (closed), Kings Cross, Camden Town

Kennington - Camden Town via Charing Cross:
Tracks: 100%
Tunnels: 3%
Stations built: Kennington, Euston, Camden Town

Camden Town - Hampstead:
Tracks: 100%
Tunnels: 100%
Stations build: Camden Town, Chalk Farm

Next planned step, hopefully for today: extending the tracks to Tooting Broadway.

All this could mean the first version available for download will take some time longer, as more of the Northern Line can then be included in it (and not just a small section finished, with a lot of unfinnished track).

But I have all weekend to work on it, even monday is free, and I will post updates on this forum at least once a day (exept when nothing is done with the route).;)

If you do pass it on I would be grateful and, of course credit you as you will have done most of the hard work.

I am intending to start work on my 1995 tube stock add-on relatively soon, I will inform you when (if it ever is) it's finished and where you can find it.

I like that you've made the third and fourth rails 3D, on the district add-on they are just drawn on lines along the ground

I know; I my route, those textures are vissible at the switches, where my third and fourth rails are interupted (they are only in tunnels and tubestations).
Also on the surface part of the Northernline those textures will be visible, as it is just to much work to place the third and fourth rails (they are in twenty-meter sections, on many kilometers of track.

Latest update about the route; The tracks are now complete until Morden. There is no scenery yet.
I do not have pictures of the Morden depot, so the tracks end about 200 meters after Morden station.

As it is a Brittish route, speedsigns are in Miles. Anyone any idea wat the max. speed is on the London Underground?
In testruns on the MSTS-route I concluded 35 mph is probably the best max. speed between stations (due to how fast the train I used in screenshots can stop when I see a red signal), but is this accurate?

--- old post above --- --- new post below ---

I have found Morden depot on Google Earth, which gives me enough information to recreate it (well, at least the track layout).

--- old post above --- --- new post below ---

As Angel and Euston have stations (City branch) with a larger diameter (but only southbound), I did some research as to why this is.
I found out those stations once had two tracks, with an islandplatform, but the northbound tracks were redirected into a new tunnel. In there place, the platform was widened.

Before making the Angel and Euston platforms, I had to know the diameter of these station-tunnels.
I found out Clapham North and Clapham Common still have the old situation where both tracks are in the same station-tunnel with an islandplatform.
So I decided to make those first, and then rebuild the shapes (remove 2nd track and widen the platform) for use at Angel and Euston (in effect, it's the same proces as in the real world).

Here is a screenshot of Clapham North station being build:

the max speed on the underground varies on different lines but I think th northern line has a max speed of 40mph.

I started to make the northern line from edgeware to golders green for practise as i know that stretch of track better than any other line. So far I've managed to do a straight stretch of track. Could somebody please tell me what you need to do to get it to work in msts?
--- old post above --- --- new post below ---
please ignore my query on getting my route to work in msts, being a complete idiot i didn't check the FAQ.

Today I have completed the tracks to Mille Hill East and High Barnet. This part of the line was relatively easy to build, as it is all on the surface; I could use Google-Earth to follow the tracks.

I still need to build the Highgate depot, Morden depot and Hamstead - Edgware.
And of course tunnels, stations and scenery on the rest of the line.

Here is a new update:

From what I've seen it looks excellent, I'm looking forward to it. My short northern line stretch is basically a straight line.

sjbve, you've put Clapham South down as finished, it should be Clapham North.

You're right, that was a mistake. I have put it right; I have just build Clapham South (and the tunnels between Clapham South and Clapham Common).
I will upload a new updated map when I have build another few stations.;)
