I probably should have worded it differently - the voyagers are unlikely to be part of the same repaint program as the pendolinos are. If they're getting repainted it's unlikely to be at Widnes, and if the first one is being reliveried this month it makes me think it's much more likely to be a vinyl wrap rather than a repaint at first.
Voyagers owned by Beakon Rail, Pendolino is Angel trains. So totally different projects.

Voyagers will need repainting as it is corrosion protection requirement. Could be Widnes but fleet tender not out yet.

Good Evening.

I can confirm thanks to a senior member of Bombardier staff that 221101 will be the first Voyager to get painted and will transfer to Ilford this Sunday (5Z75) having formed off 1A75 from Chester.

The flowing silk livery will be applied but unlike the Pendolinos, the Voyagers will receive fully black fronts with new LED lights. It is expected to return 30th September.

Maybe they’ll figure out a way to make the voyagers seem less narrow with the new paint job

Need to make it all pretty for its upcoming naming.

Or just very aware that people turn suggestions into rumours, and rumours into fact in the rail industry.
And someone saying "won't say my source", with literally no further clues is screaming "this might be false", even though it seems to have appeared to be true.

Strange they're doing it now though - I would have thought they would do this after the franchise fun.

Well other Virgin staff knew. I got my info from Virgin staff so you might want to moan to your boss .

I'm out in the sticks, so we'll probably find out when it actually turns up in service! Looking forward to giving the freight and LNWR drivers a taste of their own medicine with some ridiculously bright front lights seeing as it's going to have a black front!

I'm not holding my breath on these. Its very common for unconfirmed sources to be wrong on this forum..

The red and silver was great, and still is, however times move on, and the new livery with window bands is the way forward. Look forward to receiving updates re repaints.

There is a path showing on Realtimetrains for a 221 on Sunday night from Euston-Wembley then towards Ilford as someone has already said on here. Taking an educated guess that that is East London so there's no other reason why it would be going over there. Presume XC will need to do theirs as well as they look in a worse state than ours, you can still see the old VT badge imprint on the front which is poor really.

221101 just for posterity. Chester 05/09/18.
Not been a bad livery for the last 17 years or so.

Lets's see how it looks after 30th September then!!

It really is (was :() a superb livery. Nothing has come close to it in my opinion & still the exterior door decor finishes that shade of silver grey perfectly then the rich red at the ends. Shame the doors went all grey & plain on Pendos.

It really has been a superb livery and Virgin certainly helped spice up the privatised railways, but times a change and so do the liveries.
They just need to get it right!
But it's going to be an interim paint job i presume just like the 390s to await future vinyls from whoever wins the WCP franchise.
Should imagine the external doors will go solid colour as well.

I agree. One of the best liveries around. Quite simple and surprisingly ungarish for Virgin. It stood the test of time.

Ungarish? The front has the same colour palette as the Lego logo.

I think it’s past it’s best and due for an update. The red roof really doesn’t help with hiding soot stains / graphite deposits.

I don't think Virgin can be blamed for the mandatory hazard yellow on the front.

I disagree, it will be a shame to see the end of this livery.
