Some I can think of:

1) London to Belfast SOR has a 1X restriction mainly restricting BoJ
2) Liverpool (Cluster) to Chester Zoo SDR has a B1 restriction and is routed +Any Permitted.

Interesting, but the point I am trying to make is that after "Simplification" the word Anytime is supposed to describe a ticket that can be used at any time. Only by meaning this can customers buy with confidence.

A: When it is a Gatwick Express ticket. Ooops!

That may be what the website says, but the ticket issued from GTW to VIC is a CDR whereas VIC to GTW is an SDR. Both the same price (£23.80).

These restrictions are further evidence of incompetence, however they are not enforceable.

Again, if anyone is asked to hand over any extra money when using an Anytime ticket at a so-called barred time, my advice would be to refuse to pay anything (after all if you have a ticket that would reasonably be considered valid, why would you need to carry any cash with you?!) and they will have to issue an Unpaid Fare Notice. We will be happy to assist in any appeal.

Re: "Anytime" (and "Journey", "Opportunity", "Direct", "Regular" etc.)
"‘When I use a word,' Humpty Dumpty said, in rather a scornful tone, ‘it means just what I choose it to mean—neither more nor less.'

The question is,' said Alice, ‘whether you can make words mean so many different things."

The question is,' said Humpty Dumpty, ‘which is to be master—that's all.'"
From "Through The Looking Glass and What Alice Found There", Lewis Carroll, 1871

It was only last year that I listened to the protracted High Court agument in Pink Floyd vs EMI revolving around the word "record" and whether the one instance in which it appeared in their contract without a capital "R" may have a different meaning from the many instances in which it DID have a capital "R". That argument failed.

How silly  . Unnecessary confusion.

Two threads in two days in which I have come down on the same side as Yorkie. Time for a lie down methinks!

Out of interest, what do you have to buy to travel from GTW to VIC before 0930?

The TOC probably intends that you to buy the tickets shown in blue.

GATWICK AIRPORT 5416 - LONDON VICTORIA 5426

rte SOUTHERN ONLY 777
FOR R 33.80
FDS S 16.90
FCR C0 R 18.90
SOR R 25.00
SDS S 12.50
SDR R 18.80
CDR C0 R 12.60

rte AP SOUTHERN ONLY 777
SAV SV S 5.00
SBV SV S 7.50
SCV SV S 10.00

rte Any Permitted
FOS S 26.00
FOR R 50.00
SOS S 17.90
SOR R 30.80

GE1 GX R 30.00
CDR C0 R 23.80

CO: Outward by any train scheduled to arrive at London Terminals or Kensington Olympia at or after 0950.
SV: Standard Advance Single.
GE1: First Class Off-Peak Day Return.
GX: Valid for travel in First Class accommodation on the date shown on the ticket via Gatwick Express services only. On Mondays to Fridays the ticket is valid for outward travel by trains departing from Gatwick Airport after 0930 or anytime from London Victoria. The return journey can be started up to 0135 on the date following that shown on the ticket.

It seems to me that the words I have placed in bold cannot be enforced because the words printed under "Route" on the ticket are Any Permitted. NRCoC 13 refers.

Thanks sonic and John. It appears from their website that the GX tickets have different restrictions when purchased online using print at home or mobile. In these instances the tickets are GX only and are valid for longer than usual. If they are delivered through TOD or post or bought at a ticket office then they are accepted on all operators.

This is simplification at its most complicated. Or is that complification in its simplest form?

....2) Liverpool (Cluster) to Chester Zoo SDR has a B1 restriction and is routed +Any Permitted.

This is because Chester Zoo is special fare and not valid before 0930. The Liverpool-Bache Anytime Return is not restricted.

It used to be an add-on fare which was restricted to after 0930, There is no CDR for Liverpool-Bache (rte Birkenhead).

The name of this ticket is inappropriate and should be changed. I doubt even ATOC would be daft enough to try and defend it; the world of UK rail ticketing is bizarre in many ways, but an anytime ticket with time restrictions is beyond the pale!

I think you'll find that it is consistent with the spirit of "Simplification" and the way it is implemented for other ticket types so far. So why not for "Anytime" tickets? ;)
