Dear Prime Minister,
It is with deep sadness that I am writing to you to resign from the Government.
It has been an enormous privilege to serve our country as Chancellor of the Exchequer and I will always be produ of how during the pandemic we protected people's jobs and business though actions such as furlough.
To leave ministerial office is a serious matter at any time. For me to step down as Chancellor while the world is suffering the economic consequences of the pandemic, the war in Ukraine and other serious challenges is a decision that I have not take lightly.
However the public rightly expect government to be conducted properly, competently, and seriously. I recognised this may be my last ministerial job, but I believe these standards are worth fighting for and that is why I am resigning.
I have been loyal to you. I backed you to become Leader of our Party and encouraged other to do so. I have served as your Chancellor with gratitude that you entrusted me with stewardship of the nation's economy and finances. Above all, I have respected the powerful mandate given tyo you by the British people in 2019 and how under your leadership we broke the Brexit deadlock.
That is why I have always tried to compromise in order to deliver the things you want to achieve. On those occasions where I disagreed with you privately, I have supported you publicly. That is the nature of the collective government upon which our system relies and it is particularly important that the Prime Minister and Chancellor remain united in hard times such as those we are experiencing today
Our country if facing immense challenges. We both want a low-tax, high-growth economy, and world class public services, but this can only be responsibly delivered if we are prepared to work hard, make sacrifices and take difficult decisions.
I firmly believe the public are ready to hear that truth. Our people know that if something is too good to be true then it's not true. They need to know that whilst there is a path to a better future, it is not an easy one. In preparation for our proposed joint speech on the economy next week, it has become clear to me that our approaches are fundamentally too different.
I am sad to be leaving Government but I have reluctantly come to the conclusion that we cannot continue like this.
Kind Regards,
Rishi Sunak
"Government should be run properly, competently & seriously"Sunak gone now too.
Patel, Raab, Lewis and Barclay the least likely to resign, other than Dorries of course
Them and a whole bunch of others who are so dim and useless that they'd never be given a job by anyone else in charge, and only got their jobs in the first place because of their sycophantic loyalty to Boris Johnson.Patel, Raab, Lewis and Barclay the least likely to resign, other than Dorries of course
And Coffey!Patel, Raab, Lewis and Barclay the least likely to resign, other than Dorries of course
Absolutely! I've often despaired at the amount of Teflon that Boris has managed to surround himself with, but even I think the end must be in sight for him now. The only thing I would add is that all those sycophants who have stupidly pandered to him for so long, ought to all lose their careers too. Including Javid and Sunak for their own blind arrogance before now.Change the title, it has gone wrong for Johnson![]()
“How did you go bankrupt?"
Two ways. Gradually, then suddenly.”
Rishi doesn't deserve a top job simply because of his incompetence as Chancellor (especially the appalling way he treated, and lied about, the 3 million excluded freelancers, self employed and zero hours workers!).Absolutely! You mean we might need a new thread soon!Change the title, it has gone wrong for Johnson![]()
Although weren't some of those people who paid themselves with dividends to avoid tax?Rishi doesn't deserve a top job simply because of his incompetence as Chancellor (especially the appalling way he treated, and lied about, the 3 million excluded freelancers, self employed and zero hours workers!).
I favor Theresa May as next PM, she should never have been ousted.
The resignations today, are they THE defining moment? Or have there been several defining moments, and more to come?
He's wounded but not yet in a death spiral. Sunak has been after a way out to feather his own private business needs for sometime so he can try and exit with some credibility left. Javid i didn't see coming but he isn't really a sycophant if Wallace and Eustace resign that might get momentum going but even then he has so many hanger ons they will just rally rally round him and he will have even less people in the cabinet to challenge him.I favor Theresa May as next PM, she should never have been ousted.

Wallace might well be next to resign imo: in fact, that might be it for the Vegetables for the moment i.e. a few junior ministers will depart too. He's wounded but not yet in a death spiral. who has only been an MP since 2017!Simon Clarke rumoured to replace Sunak.
I bet she's dancing tonight!I favor Theresa May as next PM, she should never have been ousted.

Two more days and he passes Neville Chamberlain, thirty to reach May’s total. Does that matter to him?
who has only been an MP since 2017!
Any sensible person would call it quits now, however Boris seems determined to stay on at all costs. I do think he will eventually go, but it will be a bitter struggle to get him to go.I would be surprised if Johnson goes quickly: I would expect him to try and hang on. He might succeed or he might not but he will just try to keep going: staying in Number 10 seems to be more important than dignity? The one wild card is Carrie, who might realise before hm if he is on a hiding to nothing.

His tongue has acquired the requisite patina now.Experience doesn’t matter, only total loyalty to the wannabe supreme leader!
