My main beef with the 150s are the dreadful condition they are in under Northern. The seats on the 150/1s are the originals, worn out and filthy. Also the heating is stuck on in summer and not effective enough in winter. The engines are knackered and rattle the train to pieces under hard acceleration. The 150/2s are really comfortable though, especially 150275, although the heating issue remains, it's like a giant moving petry dish for cold/flu during wet or cold weather. One only needs to look at ATW so see what can be accomplished with them, they are very versatile units.

Sprinters are one of the best things to happen to our railways since the introduction of the HST's! They're pretty reliable and brilliant for whatever route they get set on, able to couple up to others mostly, got to love Arriva's 158's and South West Trains 159's the epitomy of nice travel :D

Given that 159s are essentially the same as 158s but were built with 1st class, how can anyone vote for 159s?

I made my judgement on comfort and as the ATW ones are less comfier than SWT's 159's i made my judgement in favour of 159's :D

But SWT has some ex-TPE 158s that have been refurbished to the same standard as the 159s. So :p ;)

Anyway, my mind is changend, everyone should vote for the 155s since they havn't had a vote yet and I feel sorry for them.

I prefer the 159s.

They're three cars long as opposed to two cars (158s, although FGW has several three car examples), they look good in either NSE or SWT livery, and they still retain their original seats, which are more comfortable than the Chapman ones fitted to most of FGW's 158s.

I don't see how length or livery can play a part in the decision as 158s have a three car variety (not just with FGW either) and would look identical to a 159 in a livery that the 159s wear.

159's as I learnt them for the summer 2001 timetable.

Worked 159107 and 159108 today back to London.

Also 159020? and 159007 outward.Earlier.

ATW 158`s are the best IMO, i do like the EMT set though nothing beats the ATW lot

I prefer the 150s; the door arrangement lends themselves to quicker loading and unloading. In 153s the windows are too high up and seats far to close together (esp. in refreshed units). 158s air-con never works.

PS: I think the aircon in 159s actually works, unlike on 158s; that may be the difference ;)

156 by far, our 158s can't cope on the far north lines, usually when you strike sheep/stag your engine turns off or your brakes can't be released

I went for the 150 as I remember them shiny brand new when I was a kid coming to replace the 101's. So maybe a soft spot for them.

The 156 is a train I really cant stand, mainly down to the ridiculous legroom that makes Voyagers and Pendolinos look positively generous.
