Why are the Class 390 Pendolinos running with coupling doors open?

Over the past week whenever I have seen a Pendolino/Class 390 the doors that covers the coupling at the front and back of the train seems to be open?

Is there a reason for this? Occasionally I have seen Pendolinos with the coupling doors open before however its normally a rare occurrence.

Fleet wide modification. Once it has been implemented across the whole fleet the coupling doors will be closed again.

What's the modification?

Fixing the door closing mechanism!

This is a joke, if unsure what a joke is google it!

Edit-
The bit above was not aimed at Ainsworth74 (who does indeed have a sense of humour) but was a general comment at those who take every written word as read and wouldn't know a joke if it smacked them on the nose.

Back when they were new, it was discovered that the yellow warning panel was slightly under the required area when running with the doors open, (something about 0.9m^2) and there was a time when it was proposed that they wouldn't be able to run at EPS with the doors open.

I think a long term dispensation against the group standards was the eventual answer.

Think some get sent on the route into north wales and require the assistance of a class 57 thunderbird as it's non electrified.
Hence the coupling doors are left open.

have all of the doors been removed pending the work. I t just dawned on me that i haven't seen a pendo with a flush front for a while, and yes, they sometimes fall off!

Cue another thread to introduce 442s (!!) - they started life with nice, neat cable jumper doors that soon fell off or were removed. Why can't we get doors right anymore?

The ones on the 442s were removed shortly after introduction as they had a tendency to think they were a guillotine for fingers.

I suspect it's probably a different issue with the 390s?

On the Pendos I have seen about 8 today and all of them have had their doors removed rather than slid back like on some trains.

The reason they have been left open is apparently to catch any 'roadkill' that gets in the way. Apparently there is a modification in place to divert this roadkill to the buffet car for their sandwiches.

So that's how they can say the sandwiches are freshly made on board!

The Class 180s used to have coupling doors but they have now been removed.
